I need help with some color decisions for our kitchen. The floor tile is Daltile Brixton in Sand. Here's the link to it: http://daltileproducts.com/series.cfm?series=252

It's a light color with some variation that's very nice. The wall color is similar. I have this combination in our bathroom and I really like it.

For the kitchen, I'd like to do the same floor and wall color. The cabinets we've chosen are maple but stained to look like cherry. I'd like to do a black countertop like honed granite, soapstone or maybe a quartz but I'm wondering if the contrast would be too much. I also remember reading somewhere that the horizontal surfaces should match somewhat.

Would it be strange to have light floor and walls and dark countertops? I'm wondering if I should choose a slightly darker floor tile or go with a more neutral granite? I really like the cherry cabinet/black countertop combination, so I guess my real question is whether a lighter floor and wall color is appropriate.
