kitchen appliance layout

I found this forum a month or so ago and it has been very helpful. My husband and I are about to build a new home and we are needing help with our kitchen layout. We think the way the appliances are now should work but I know ya'll have alot more experience than us. We do cook a good bit and we like to have our large families over to entertain. Thanks.

What I see is what I'm trying to get rid of: The hike between the stove and the fridge! The island is between the prep sink and the fridge too. I might put the ice machine on the wall where you have the fridge, even if it meant installing an additional waterline and drain, so that it can be easily gotten at by the hordes you're putting it in for, and maybe a beverage fridge there too if you have use for it. Maybe the ice is sufficient for your family.

No matter what, I'd put the main fridge by the oven.

It looks from the placement of the china cabinet that the dining room is on the opposite end from the breakfast bar, but putting the ice outside of the island's shelter makes it accessible from both, and putting the fridge by the oven makes it no less accessible from the DR, and much closer to the the stove and prep sink.

I really hate stirring something on the stove and having to plan when I can put it down to run 16 feet to the fridge for a little leftover wine or butter or whatever.

If nothing else, I'd make sure the fridge was lined up with the aisle so it's more of a direct path to it from the cooking part of the kitchen.

I think the idea of having so much room is so that you don't have zones and people overlapping and running into each other. I'd create more of a work triangle with the fridge, prep sink, and stove, and so it won't overlap or crossover the clean up area. Right now to get to the fridge from the stove, you cross over/past whomever is clearing or loading the dishwasher. And it's a lot of walking to get something from the fridge, take it to the prep sink, prep it, and take it to the stove. It should be easier to go from fridge to prep to stove and back to fridge. Putting the fridge where the ovens are would create a better work area, and would also include the pantry, which is a definite plus, too.

You have so much room there a lot of other things you could do...Put the cleanup area or at least some amazing dish storage where you now have the fridge. You can create a baking center, breakfast/snack center, a coffee bar, or a beverage center...All depending on your family's priorities and wants/needs.

Do you need 4 bar seats and the bfast table? Do you have children or will you? Do you have multiple workers in your kitchen, at least when you entertain, or is it usually a one-person kitchen?

Thanks for the suggestions. The only problem I have with moving the fridge to where the ovens are is that we are always going to the refrigerator to get something after we sit down to eat. We'll usually always eat in the breakfast area when its just us. We have 1 kid and 1 on the way. Would like to have 3.

If you had an island instead of the peninsula, you could place the fridge on the bfast room end of the stove wall. But you'd have only 2 bar seats, unless you're willing to do a galley style with seating on the side of the island facing the stove with shallow cabinetry on that wall behind.

Like I said, it seems you have so much room...you should be able to try a few different layouts.
