Favorite Iphone Apps?

I got an Iphone for Christmas and am a bit overwhelmed by all the applications our there.

If you have an Iphone or Ipod Touch - what are your favorite apps?

I am a novice too, but I like the Bananagrams game!

I have been "playing" with my sisters while she is down visiting and I have to say that the Star Wars light sabre is indispensable for distracting children and the moron test is quite a hoot.

It depends what you need the app for; I'm using Tabita as a timer for exercising, it's excellent.

I love my iphone! Most of these are free, some are $.99 and a few (Scrabble!) are a bit more.

Games (my favorites): Scrabble, Tetris, Bejeweled, Crossword, PocketGod, Yahtzee, moxie, galaga

Games (my kids' favorites): sims3, bubblewrap, blowfish, cuberunner, falling balls, minipiano, touchgrind (!), doodlejump, labyrinth, the deep pinball (my husband's fav)

Most used apps: npr, dictionary, shopper (great), huffington post, facebook, craigsphone, ebay, birds of north america, shralptide (finds your location and gives you tide times), and NASA tv (so I can watch the rocket countdowns from the beach while waiting for a launch)

Best apps for showing off the beauty of the iphone: zippo lighter, fluid, dice, cradle, handy level, gps drive, flashlight (a blank bright white screen - ha).

    Have fun!

I think TweetDeck, if you're into Twitter, is fun. Here's a list from Tech Crunch.

    Bento is very useful.

I became addicted to Bejeweled a few days ago.

I am going to check out all of your suggestions.

So far, my favorites are: SoundHound (tells you what song is playing on the radio or you can even sing some of the lyrics),
Kindle - I have read two books and am amazed at how easy it is even with a tiny screen. Seems to make you even more engaged with the book and I like how I can curl up and prop it up on a pillow. Stanza is another reader, but Kindle seems the best with the link to Amazon.com to get books.
    IMDb - for movie listings
    Bing - for general searching
Sudoku - like the game I've downloaded but would be interested in another version if you really like yours.
    Solitaire and Poker.

    I'm going to download Bejeweled2.

The only thing I really miss from my Verizon smart phone was the cover screen info. It showed me my next two appts and I loved that because I could just glance down at my phone and see what I had going on next. With the Iphone, I have to open my calendar and look. Not a biggie I know, but still, an extra step.

    I just bought this book:

    "IPhone: the missing manual"
the book that should have been in the box
    by David Pogue

it gives clear and detailed info on certain functions, with pictures of the steps.
I am trying to sync ICal from my laptop to phone ; I'm the type of person who likes to read about it and understand it before I actually do it so this book was calling me.

**PLEASE NOTE: If you are sort of person who comes to complete stops at every stop sign, never ever goes over the speed limit, and always reports state sales tax on internet purchases on your IRS 1040 then please skip this post.***

It is possible to free up the ipod touch for apps not sanctioned by Apple. And do wild and crazy things like have FIVE columns of icons, put your apps into folders, and *gasp* change the appearance of your screen. A friend told me that this is easy and fun.

lenam: you'd be my DS' favorite friend. He has an itouch and j/b it, use it to watch movies, and call me from his itouch. He wants an iphone but he's only 9. Maybe in another 9years lOL :-D

My 2yo DS loves the moron test on his brother's itouch. He's smarter than me because he passed the moron test and I can't. LOL He also loves tap-tap. Last year, we would put him to bed w/ the itouch and he can play tap-tap until he got tired & fall asleep.

Cool iphone app: Hipstamatic. It gives your pictures that vintage quality.

LOL Bellaflora, I guess I just unleashed my inner 9 year old... I hope Apple takes the hint, and allows similar apps to be available through regular channels. NOTE: j/b is not for everyone, it is best to be comfortable enough with typing code in Terminal to handle the security changes needed.

But a 5-row Qwerty keyboard is so worth it!

Here are another fun app (for regular ipod users):

Haha, lena. : ) My son did the jailbreak on his phone and loves it. : )

We've had our iPhones for a little over a year. Having been an Apple/Mac family since the early 80s it was a natural choice. I have too many apps to list and most of my favs have been mentioned so I'll just say I'm currently addicted to Lineup. It's sunny and gorgeous out here in SoCal so I should be out doing some garden cleanup but noooo, I'm sitting at the breakfast table with my laptop and looking at my iPhone next to me, thinking when can I play Lineup next. Better sign off. That little black sliver of fun is calling my name. ; )

The timer for exercising is called Tabata, not tabita; I do my ab work with this.

My son (9) really likes Snail Mail. We just had the free version for a few months, but I relented and paid a few bucks for the real thing just recently. It is really cute! And I love that I can hand him my phone to play on while I'm busy with something else :) (Like picking a paint color!!)

I'm thinking of getting the Verizon version of the Google NexusOne phone in a few months...Verizon is the best carrier around us, unfortunately. Anyone have any thoughts on the Iphone vs. the NexusOne? I knokw the N1 has fewer apps for it, BUT it's open-source so folks can develop their own apps, as I understand it from my IT DH.

Fly, I got the droid for Christmas. I am a tech idiot and I LOVE this phone. It is a verizon phone, I can't use ATT b/c it's my husbands account, and he has to use verizon for work. I don't know anything about the NexusOne, but I highly recommend the Droid.

I'm on TMobile and just got the Motorola Cliq. I like it because it has a slide out physical keyboard, plus a touch screen. It is also an Android phone. I have found quite a few useful and fun apps for it.

terriks, we are with Tmobile also. I had a Blackberry, and thought I was missing out on on the touch screen stuff that all my friends have, and bought the Motorola Cliq. I had it a week and took it back and got the new 9700 Blackberry Bold. Now, the girl that helped me at TMobile LOVES her Motorola cliq, and another lady who came in when I was trying to decide, said she loved hers, so I got it. It was just too "touchy" for me, and I kept calling people by accident by barely touching the pad. Everyone said I would get use to it, but, I went back to the newer Blackberry. Had to wait awhile, because they have been selling out of the new BB.

Saying that, I have never loved a phone so much as my Blackberry Bold. It is so much better than the older model BB's, and it is simple enough for me to handle. I guess I am just not as tech savvy as most of you or my friends-LOL!

After the first 2 days with my Cliq I thought that I would return it for a Blackberry (I had the BB Pearl previously). The battery life seemed horrid, and I was doing some accidental dialing. So I read some Tmobile message boards about the Cliq, and learned how to condition the battery, and now I don't have any problems with it. I love the fact that it has a touchscreen and a physical keyboard. I'm not sure that I could get used to the touchscreen alone. And I love all the different apps that I can download. Now with the new Google phone, I'm sure that there the number of apps available will grow exponentially.
