Buehl- Fridge Question?????

I saw your fridge in another post. I'm considering the same fridge. I have couple questions:

1. Do you like it?

2. How far do you have to open the doors to get the bins out for cleaning (tried looking on GE website, but couldn't find any info on this).

The reason for question 2 is that I will have a cabinet hutch next to my fridge that will stick out approximately 14- 16" beyond the box. Here's a rough overview...I think we are planning a different table than this shot, but it will give you an idea what I'm talking about. I noticed a few other things are different. 1) the hutch next to the fridge is now 18" deep on the bottom and 15" on top and 2) the ovens and baking center are switched so that I can pull the base of the baking center to the end of the fridge case for increased depth.

Sorry...busy with family and work the past couple of days...

OK...I just measured the angle & to be able to actually remove the bottom, full width drawer, it's a 30o angle with the back wall. Measuring using the inside, it would be 150o (180o - 30o = 150o) To just open the vegetable/fruit drawers, it's just over 90o; to open the deli drawer (full-width) fully, you'll need a little bit more.

If your refrigerator is against a wall or cabinet that extends past the depth of the refrigerator carcass, you will definitely need filler, probably as much as 6" and maybe even more. I don't know for certain, though, b/c my refrigerator extends almost 2-1/2" past the wall and cabinets so I didn't need any filler. Check with your KD.

The other possibility is to switch your refrigerator & ovens...the refrigerator is actually a little more than 2-1/4" deeper than standard 24" counters and I don't think any filler will be necessary.

If you saw my pictures, then you probably know that I also have a 34" finished end panel on each side of my refrigerator to mimic a "built-in" look.

    Here are some pics:

Note the finished end panel extends out 26" to cover the normally exposed black sides:

This shows the end panel on the other side...extending beyond the counter (btw, CD refrigerator generally extend past the counters):

The point of the last pictures is to show you how my refrigerator is deeper than the wall and cabinets on either side and how this placement allows me to not need filler to allow the doors to open enough to remove the drawers for cleaning.

Thanks a ton! I totally understand about the family stuff. I'm trying to keep the ovens and baking area together so I don't think I want the fridge in the middle...so I may just have to make sure the hutch is pushed down a few more inches....I'm definitely going to have the panels.

I take it you like the fridge?

    Oh...forgot that question!

Yes, but it took some getting used to. We went from a full size (36" x 36") to a counter depth. There is a definite decrease in refrigerated space that took some "creative" engineering to make work. But I think we now have the shelves configured efficiently and have a system down where we only put the stuff needed for the week (lunch stuff like yogurt, milks, apples, etc.) in this refrigerator and the "overflow" in our old refrigerator. Right now the old one is still in the FR, but shortly it will be moved to the basement so we'll see how that goes...running up & down the stairs! But, I've noticed that as we've adjusted we don't make nearly as many trips today to the old refrigerator as we did initially.

One thing...I prefer the freezer location and its configuration in the new one to the old one. The refrigerator drawer w/its 2 inside drawers is much more useful than the old one w/only a shelf. The icemaker, too, seems to take up less space in the new one.

I too have this refrigerator and it did take time to get used to, after having a 26" ge profile side by side before. We too have an extra one in the garage for overflow, but it now works out great for us and we do like it alot. Buehl, do you have trouble with the ice cubes all sticking together?? Also did you get the extra warranty on it. I had a GE repairman come out for our microwave which came in with a dent, and he said that it would be a good idea to get the extra warranty because it costs a small fortune when something goes wrong with them. We are now pricing the extra warranty.
That is the only problem we have found is the ice. Otherwise like it alot.

No Marilyn, we don't seem to have that problem. I wonder if it's caused by the "frost free" function. I think it's a warming and then cooling cycle...maybe it's warming too much. Whatever its cause, it isn't happening in our freezer.

No, we didn't get the extended warranty...but I think I'll look into it now that I've heard what your repairman said. Did he happen to mention any other appliances? We also have a GE Profile Trivection DO and WD. I wonder if we should just get one for everything (except maybe the WD).

BTW...our refrigerator is model "PFCS1NJWSS". I checked the GE website and it says "This model is no longer available for purchase."

Buehl, we have a Bosch dishwasher, GE Profile range and microwave and GE CD/FD refrig. He said of all the appliances we had, the ones he found enough service calls to suggest getting the additional warranty was on the FD refrig and the microwave. I am not getting it on the micro, we will take our chances as it was $550.00 compared to $2500.00 with tax on the refrig. He did say not too many problems with any of the ovens, ranges etc. He said they are one of the best in that area. This is just his opinion, but he said the micro for some reason is very expensive to fix, but the additonal warranty is cheap on it. I am waiting for a call back from where I purchased for refrig additional warranty, I heard it is pretty expensive, but I love the looks of it and alot of the features it has and want to keep it for years. I think I will put a service call in for the ice, thanks for letting me know about yours.
I am at work, so I don't have my model number with me, but is PFCSIN don't remember the rest, but mine does not have the external water dispenser.Sorry I thought yours was the same, but a little different.

Thanks Marilyn! My DH isn't convinced yet. He's of the opinion that "all those extended warranties are a rip off". He got that from, among others, Consumer Reports.
