Android vs the iphone

Trying to decide here. We currently are on Verizon but are also considering a switch back to Sprint. So which do you have and what do you like about it? Also, very important, what is the sound quality with phone calls?

I've never had an android, so I'm biased. I have an iphone and have no complaints. I use the ipod function and sound for that is great - even when not in a speaker dock. Sound is also great for phone calls. I know there is so much more I could do with this phone that I'm not. Hubby had no intention of switching phones, but after I had my iphone a few months, he got one too. Our service is through AT&T. I've never had a single dropped call and have no complaints against our service either.

I have an iPhone, my first smartphone, that I just got in October. I love it. I have Verizon, which has the best coverage in my area. Since I've only had it for a couple of months, I'm still learning all the cool things it can do for me (like saved me $20 today at JoAnn's and Michaels by using e-coupons on the spot!). Sprint has horrible coverage by our house, so we don't use them. Dh has an android phone that his work pays for, but he has Verizon service. He's due for an upgrade and planning to get an iPhone. He liked his droid, but having an iPhone will enable us to share calendars as well as make things all around easier by using all the same software, etc.

What I like about my phone is the ease of use, being able to sync my calendar b/w my phone, computer and iPad all at once, cool apps. I don't know much about android phones, but every time I've tried to use dh's phone, it was a PITA (I'd try to type something and end up on a new screen and couldn't find my way back to where I was). My iPhone has an amazing camera phone as well - the quality of photos is as good as my pocket digital camera. It definitely comes in handy when I forget to bring a camera somewhere and want to take pictures.

Wish I could give you a better review but I'm new to Apple products though in the last year, became owner of an iPad, iMac and iPhone. Doubt I will ever switch back to pcs or non-apple products now!

I could have written tina's post! Love my iphone.

I was reluctant to switch to a smartphone, but I love, love, love my iPhone. We have Verizon. In comparison, DH has a Blackberry Storm and and he is meh about it.

Graduating from a blackberry to an iPhone was like going from the dark ages of a horse and buggy to a brand new luxury car. I LOVE my iPhone, it is so much easier to navigate, so much easier to use, so many aps, so much faster and just better in every way. Of course, I must admit I am a long-time Apple addict and wouldn't take a PC or windows-based product today if you paid me to use it.

I've had the Motorola Droid Razr (on Verizon)for a couple of weeks and it's awesome! The battery lasts longer than my old smart phone, it's super slim, and the screen is large and easy to read and type on. The Android system comes with free Google navigation turn by turn directions, which works very well.

BTW, a great resource for comparing all the different smart phone is Cnet.

I have had my Motorola Droid for close to two years now. The free turn-by-turn navigation app. that terriks mentioned has never let me down. The Google map app has been a lifesaver when looking for restaurants, coffee, gas stations, banks, & places of interest while out of my immediate area.
I use the Google Sky Map frequently to identify stars, planets & constellations. Google Translate and Google Goggles - a visual search engine as well as Google Earth are all free apps on the Droid.

If you are a football fan the NFL mobile app is free too.

A friend of mine just got the Motorola Droid Razr and it is slick, my Droid is like a dinosaur compared to the new one!

I have Verizon, no dropped calls & the voice quality is like any wireless device.

My lap top is a MacBook Pro so I don't have a problem with Apple products, (actually I could never go back to a PC), for me the best choice in a smartphone was the Android Operating System. When my current device bites the dust, I will replace it with another Android.

Android, no doubt. Just ask the techies at Verizon.....

I'm the odd one out and HATED my iphone! As soon as I could I went back to a Blackberry (9900). The only thing I didn't like on my older BB was web browsing, and it is much better on the 9900 AND you can use your fingers now. Best of both worlds. I just love "feeling" the letters when I text. The texting is so much better on the BB, IMO.

And, don't even talk to me about dropped calls! OMG! Maybe it's regional, but EVERYONE I personally know, has dropped calls with ATT (or is it the iphone?). I knew this before getting the iphone, and didn't think it would bug me too much, but, it was so frustrating!

We have the ipad, and I didn't use much on the iphone.

I got my DS the Samsung Galaxy phone for Christmas. It has the full screen so he can play games, etc. because he is the one who used my iphone for games, etc. when out and about.

Ollie, I know it seems like you are the odd man out but you are not alone. I have the Blackberry Tour through Verizon right now and to be honest, if the screen was bigger, I wouldn't worry about trading it in. Unfortunately, I no longer have 20/20 vision and even when it's zoomed I find the print is too small and hard to read. I'm also not thrilled with the volume control because it can't get turned up very loud. The exception (of course) is when I'm using on speaker, but how is that helpful?! Grrr...

Well, it seems like everyone is for the most part happy with their phones regardless of what they have. My biggest concern is call quality and screen size. I'm not so interested in the apps but maybe that's because I don't know what I'm missing YET!

    Thanks everyone!

luk, my sister has Sprint, and maybe it's where she lives, but she has to go outside to use her phone. I have heard wonderful things about Verizon. Did they get the iphone? Because, if so, then maybe you don't have to worry about dropped calls with Verizon.

Yes, I know, the screen on BB is smaller, unless you get the 9930, I think is the one, that has the whole screen but you push up the top and text underneath, IYKWIM. I just don't use the web that much, so it wasn't a big deal to me. Most celebrities/movie stars have BB's, which I have never figured that one out!

I'm sure you would like the iphone, most people do.

Ollie, now that you mention it, we had the same problem with Sprint. I could never receive calls indoors. Yes, Verizon has the iphone and I have to say, it's very tempting!

I love my iPhone too much. I go for days without getting on my computer. Fair warning: The auto correct in text messaging is a hoot. You will fall in love with Siri. Promise.

I think it's easier to protect an iPhone with a sturdy case. Androids are difficult if they have a slide out keyboard. Aimee broke her Android face.

I also love my iPhone too much. I found it easier to
navigate than my DH Blackberry Storm. He is excited
to be getting a new iPhone w/Siri next week!

I have the iPhone 4 and I have to agree with the others, I really love it. I am not very computer savy but I have found the iPhone every easy to use. I recently read the new Steve Jobs book and that was always a goal of his, to make his products very easy to use.

The one thing I would change is I wish it had a larger screen.
