16 years ago

Have some progess pics to share of my budget kitchen refresh.

So I started with this:

{{gwi:1603435}}

{{gwi:1603436}}

{{gwi:1603437}}

{{gwi:1603438}}

And this is where we are now. Still plenty to do but, I am happy so far. What do you guys think? Marble counters are in. Sink and faucet. Waiting for knobs to come in. Backsplash next. And touch up work. The appliances will have to come later...

    Kimmie your refresh is looking beautiful. But your before photos are clearer and easier to see than the after photos. Can't really see the full effect of the marble. But what I see looks gorgeous. Am I correct in assuming you painted the cabinets? What color? That light fixture is amazing. Details please. And more photos when you can! I'm glad you kept the floor, is it real brick? Looks great.

    Kimmieb, I love how you've transformed your kitchen. The blend of what you've kept (floor and cabinets) and what you've updated (counters, etc.) is really well done. It manages to look elegant and homey at the same time. I especially like it that it looks distinctive -- not cookie cutter. But I agree with Judydel that we need more and clearer photos to get the full wow effect. In intrigued by your two-level island -- cool idea. I'd also love to hear more about your off-white and island paint choices ( so beautiful) and your gorgeous marble counters.

    We need more pictures! Please show us more of the marble -- overall it looks so much brighter already! Are you leaving the doors off the upper cabs to the right of the sink, because I really like the way that looks with the painted interior. Don't tease us with a few pictures of the "almost" done. You know us, we want more, no matter what the stage . . .

    yes, the pics are a little hard to see. but, it does look great! is that a black sink against the white marble - I think that is going to look awesome. and the candelabra fixture above the island - is that one or two fixtures? either way, I think of love it!

    good luck. keep the updates coming!

    Thanks guys for telling me about the pictures. I thought they looked clearer in the medium size on Photo Bucket but, it made them too small instead. This kitchen is closed off is a PITA to photograph with the lights.

    I'm posting some better ones now. I'll post again on the individual questions.

    Thank you for all the compliments. I still have a lot of clean up on the floors and finish work. New appliances are in the future Wolf cooktop, new fridge, stainless steel, etc. However, we are on a tight budget this year. This is a work with what you have remodel and mostly DITY. I changed jobs this year and with the crazy economy, it is what it is. Bought the house last year. This kitchen was from the 80s so it wasn't in terrible shape.

    Close up of chandelier which is from Visual Comfort. I have shades for it but, lighting this kitchen is a BIG challenge when you can't add cans.

    Desk Area redone. Because we added on to the island, I didn't have enough marble from my slab to put over on the top of this desk thing so I sanded and stained it with a faux finish to look kind of like butcher block to save some $$$. I want to put a backsplash but, might just leave just like it is and put wine racks under the desk and make it not a desk.

    Got some of my knobs on last night after I posted:

    Francoise 47 Re: adding on to island. The old island was off center and seemed oddly positioned to me so the countertop people suggested added on to it. Because I was on a budget and didn't want to wait for a cabinet person, I on a whim brough in this old TV cabinet that was from our house growing up that my parents used as a liquor cabinet. It was just sitting in my garage. I think it addes some interest and breaks up the sameness in here. And it was FREE.

    Here's the island before. You can't tell from any pics but, I have a tray ceiling and the island was just floating out there not centered on the window, not centered on the island, drove me nuts. Just a big ole honking ceiling fan in the center.
    {{gwi:1603451}}

    So here is the add on in progress. The other purpose it has is my microwave is in there. DH had to put a back on it and bolt it to the end.

    LOVE the kitchen!!!! It is really coming along nicely.

    What did you use to paint the cabinets? Paint colors?
    Love the white and greyblue colors on the cabinets - goes beautifully with the marble.

    What a difference a little paint makes! Okay, a lot of paint and a lot of hard work. Your cabinets are beautiful. That marble is amazing. I think I would just stand there and stare at it all day. Congratulations!

    So beautiful! Love your paint choices, and of course the marble is droolworthy.

    ejbrymom The paint colors are Farrow & Ball Lime White & Light Blue (it's a little grayer than it looks in these pics). The big wall cabinets are actually 2 colors right now. The doors are Farrow & Ball Hardwick White and the frames are Light Blue. Crazy me thought I might like the frames a different color than the doors. The doors aren't finished so ignore them.

    Thank you pickle2 and the others!

    What a pretty re-do. I love all of your choices. The paint colors look so warm and rich. That light is SO unque and very cool. Obviously the counters are beautiful as well. Love your pulls, etc. too!

    Yummy, yummy, yummy.

    I'm in love with the marble countertop.

    It's hard to believe it's the same space,
    you've done an absolutely wonderful job
    so far.

    Can't wait to see the next progress pics!

    Really pretty! I think you are so lucky to have had good "bones" in your cabinets to start with--what a budget-saver. :-) The marble is just beautiful and the colors look great. Also love the floor. Just wonderful..

    I commented in your other thread regarding backsplash and I wanted to say it again-your kitchen is beautiful. Oh how I wish I could've had marble countertops-yours look lovely. Your light fixture is so cool. It's so hard to find such great unique things. You've done a great job thus far.

    Have you decided on backsplash?
