Use this mirror over buffet?

I have several places where I can put this mirror, which I had stashed in my basement for a few years while I got around to redecorating my LR. But someone suggested a mirror over my new buffet and thatÂs got me thinking. I have a lot of mirrors already so donÂt see buying another one. Ignore the green/white paper on it: I have the glass of the mirror covered with contac while I am cleaning it. Thanks in advance for your opinions!

How does this look if I move over / remove the large calligraphy that is in the middle now? All the pieces on that wall have to be recentered anyway.

The second shot is of the rococo mirror I already have on the adjacent narrow strip of wall between the two windows. Too odd to have 2 such different mirrors in the same room? I always thought that rococo mirror was just the right height and shape for that spot, though.

How about the new mirror in that spot? I think it does not show to advantage in that spot, though. The brass does not reflect any light there so it looks kind of dull.

Put the calligraphy there instead? Not sure what I would do with the rococo mirror if so.

I would leave the rococo mirror where it is and hang the other mirror over the buffet and live with it that way for a few days. If it looks right to you I would leave it. I don't think it's written in stone anywhere that you can't have two mirrors in one room and neither of them is terribly large. The buffet mirror is very unusual and beautiful. It has an Eastern feel to it. Do you happen to know its origin? Its color goes very well with the two lamps flanking it.

Those are both gorgeous mirrors. Rococo mirror should stay where it is. Not so sure the other mirror works with those lamps, though. (Still waiting for you to find red shades so you can send those white ones to me ;) )

Had never thought of using contact paper like that. What a great idea.

The mirror is way too small for the buffet. It works over the other cabinet, but then so does the mirror that is there.

les, I agree about the mirror to hang above the buffet needs to be much larger.

That is a beautiful mirror. It is too small for over the buffet and the design leads the eyes upward. You need something wider there to fill in the space. Do you have an oval mirror stashed somewhere that could go there?

The gold mirror looks fine where it is. There must be another place in the house where the Eastern mirror could go.

Thanks for the help! IÂm going to leave it leaning there for a while so I can think about it, itÂs not like I donÂt have enough to do already! ItÂs very heavy so wherever I put it will have to be permanent; I will have to use more than 1 hole in the wall, and should make sure I have a stud. I did have another place in mind which is what I originally bought it for; not a wide expanse like the buffet space.

The arch mirror was made in India. I bought it at a trade show a few years ago that had unusual home décor. It was next to a show I was attending and I just walked in and no one checked to see if I was qualified. Unfortunately it got corroded waiting in the basement and I had to use a lot of brass cleaner and scotchbrite on it. I did not want to risk scratching the glass. It still has corrosion in the corners and sides which showed up again as soon as it was dry. I have to solve that before I can put any protective coating on it and site it.

When teacats mentioned on my lamp thread about a mirror, I immediately thought that I need a long low one for this space. I could put my too-small framed pieces over that mirror. I agree with dilly_dally that the arch leads the eye upward, though I could not have verbalized or realized that until she expressed it. But IÂm trying not to spend any more money right now but rather finish what IÂve started. I think I have to monitor CraigÂs list for one of the right shape, just like IÂm doing for a chandelier. By the time I find one maybe IÂll have gotten more stuff done. I do have a round one upstairs but I think that one also is too small.

Getting feedback here really helps to clarify my thoughts. IÂve been plagued with indecisiveness lately too, I canÂt decide on anything to save my life. I think itÂs stress from knowing I have too much left hanging and a neatnik spouse who gets testy with bins stashed in the corners.
