You may want to try the "Hotel Collection" from Macy's. I thought of it immediately when you said that you didn't want anything too feminine.

Bold Stripe may look nice against the green, as well as pick up on the white of your woodwork. There are a couple of others that may work well for you too, depending on the intensity of your olive walls.

The problem is that it is more difficult to start from a wall color. Usually one picks the elements in the room and selects a wall color from there because wall color choices are endless.

Take a look and see if anything is closer to the direction you are thinking. Once we understand the feel you are going for, making suggestions will be easier.

While you're at Macy's dot com, take a look at all the Ralph Lauren stuff. It is pricey, but you can get it for less, either on eBay or during a sale. Sometimes, the discounters have stuff too...Marshall's, TJ Maxx, etc. You could also splurge on the comforter, if you really love it, and find more affordable neutral things to coordinate.

Great posts and thanks to all. I have looked into everything. I specifioally liked the post from Dillards that Patrica and MQMOI posted. They seem to have alot. I saw some Ralph Lauren stuff that I know was also suggested by amysrq and actually may have found something. I am attching the link here. Opinions please. Tis set comes in floral or stripe. I would certainly get the stripe.

I work at Dillards for my 2nd job and our prices are a LOT cheaper than Macy's. We have that Veratex bedding - 1st one posted plus the Ralph Lauren collections. We have that last floral and stripe set of Ralph's too. It's on sale as you see. What size bed Frank? I work on Friday night next. I worked the last 6 days at Dillards plus my regular 40 hour job at the design firm.

Get one small accent pillow in the floral. Part of the beauty of those coordinated sets is the way they skilfully coordinate the patterns.

Frank, I didn't realize you wanted a pattern so I was keeping my finds as plain as can be. I love the striped Ralph lauren Bedding and sheet sets. I feel that would go perfect in your room.

I love Macy's for their quality Petite Clothes that but I rarely buy my bedding there since it is just so expensive and rarely goes down enough in price from what I have seen except for sheets.

Thanks again for all the great ideas and recommendations! I have re-run all the recommendations in my mind and carefully reviewed all the pictures from the various sites. In my last post, I was leaning toward the Ralph Lauren "Woodstock Garden" and it seems that alot of you also like it. As I was looking at it closer through the Lauren website, I am questioning two things. (1) Although the striped verison appears to have my colors, will it clash with the beige / taupe colored carpet in my room? The predominate color in that design is the beige and now I am second guessing... (2) It looks like the striped designed is not made in the bed skirt. It appears to e only floral. Belive me - I know the floral looks nicer and matched great, but I can't bring myself to that. I really want to stay in the neutral realm where the bedding would work for male or female.

So, looking at all this brings me full circle. I admit I'm "decorating challenged" and thats why I appreciate all of your help, but now I'm wondering if I need to re-think and start from square 1.

If you could invent the perfect comforter for my room(based on the description from my original post), what would it be? What colors? Maybe the light beige clashes too much with the carpet. Maybe darker brown? Gold? Maroon? And how about the design? Florals are out, but maybe a majestic print-on-print could work or a stripe as we've already mentioned. I know I'm rambling here, but the kind of bedding I'm looking for is too expensive to make a mistake (especially when it would have to be ordered online since I have no Dillards in my area.) I might do a monochromatic, restful green and cream room. Make the bedding either darker or lighter than your walls.

You have a rather neutral envelope with the green and beige, so the sky is the limit :)

Here are an assortment of mfrs for luxury bedding, where you might find something majestic that you like. Priced for royalty too :) but maybe you'll see the type of bedding you like.

Just a question...the three sets I recommended first -- Rutherford Park, Langham, Coco Palm -- do you consider those "floral." I don't actually, but if you do, it will steer my advice.

The stripe might be just fine with your taupe carpet. There's really no way to know until you have the fabric in person. Order a small pillow or something in that fabric to get a first-hand view. Then order the rest if it works...

Hi amysq. To answer your question about what I consider floral.. (1) Rutherford Park - No, but it has purple in it, which I'm not crazy about and its a bit too busy (2) Langham - yes I consider that floral; (3) Coco Palm - No, but I'm not a Pasley fan.

Everyone has been so nice and I apologize for being difficult. I just want to get something that I can be happy with. Maybe I'm just not sure what that is, but I'm trying!

You know, I was in a local Macy's about 3 weeks ago looking at some bedroom furniture and I was very intrigues by some of the bedding that they used on their bedroom set displays. I really liked one comforter style. In fact - it was displayed in a room that had green walls. The comforter was basically a goldisg type base and has what I like to call a "print-on-print" design. And no - the print was not floral or pasley, but more "majestic" (not sure I can describe that). Anyway - I asked the salesperson who made the comforter and they said they didn't know but sent me to the beddding department who didn't have anything like that. I even checked online. So, I went back to the furniture store again and looked for a manufacturer tag. It said "Hollister" (I think, but maybe I got it wrong). I went to search on line but could find no manufacturer with that name (only a hip clothing store).

I only repeated that story because it truly was the only comforter stye that I liked.

Anyway - back to the drawing board!

Sounds like a damask style fabric with the print-on-print, majestic feel.

Ok, here are the particulars of the room. Size - approx. 26' by 14'; Wall color is a traditional green (almost olive); Ceiling is white with triple crown molding in white. The carpet is a beige type color. Furniture is Louis Phillipe Style (cheery/ brass handles. My master bathroom that is attcahed has brick red and sage green accents So..... I am struggling to find something to match. I have seen numerous comforters, but I'm not sure what I should match. I would like something that a man or woman could be happy with (so, flowerly stuff is basically out). Any ideas or suggestions? I would think something that is basically green would not work well with the green walls, so I'm thinking maybe something in the brown / beige family. Help! I am not good at this. Thanks in advance.

Can you get a picture? While you are describing the colors, we can't see what they actually look like. You say the carpet is a beige type color.. which really isn't helping me. There are different shades of beige and since you are spending a lot of cash on this purchase, seeing the room might be helpful.

I was googling the Ralph Lauren and came across the Fortunoff site, take a look there to see if there is anything you like.

Have you given JC Penney's site a look? The bedding marked Payton might work and another called Charon, (has different colors) and Drake which is gray / black, I also like the Maureen, which almost sounds like the best match of anything I've seen. If you were willing to change the color paint you have on your walls, I think this Shadow Leaf is really nice.

I can't tell the the number of comforters that aren't online or in the store but in smaller catalogs that you can pick up at the store. If you have a Penney's near you, it is worth a drive to their catalog department to grab one of their bedding catalogs.

Hi. To answer some of the questions.. (1)The bedding is for my Master Bedroom (not a guest room). (2)I saw that comforter at a Macy's that is over 20 miles away from my home (actually in another state), so I really wasn't pkanning on driving all the way back there just to take a picture. I do have another Macys that is much closer, so I will go check that oe out, but they don't sell furniture. (3) Thaks for the Damask print idea. I actually have seen that one before but wsn't real crazy about. (4) I will see what I can do about takinga picture of the room. Problem is that the furniture is not here yet and I am still using an old bed with bedding that doesn't match so it may throw your ideas off a little bit. (5)Roselvr - thanks! I will check into the Fortunoff website, but I did click on the ideas that you gave me from Penny's and to be honest, all the ideas are a bit tto contemporary for my traditional heart. I have visited Penney's several times though (store and website).

Venice 17-Piece Bedroom-In-A-Bag - Frank I was going to send you this one since it has always been my favorite. I was going to sent it yesterday and then again today but you were saying you wanting a stripe or a pattern. I love the Venice so much since it is very traditional, elegant, can be for a male or female and I love tone on tone looks. My bedding is a tone on tone look also and I love it.

Croscill Somerset is another set that I LOVE and was going to send you the link to until I saw your reply to a post that Damask is not your style. But I love this and I really feel it is elegant and very traditonal and not too busy of a pattern. The colors re perfect.

I wanted to let you know that the Croscill Somerset has been discontinued. It was available online, but I was a bit reluctant because I'm one of these people that have to see how how something looks. A picture just isn't good enough. So - I went to my local Linens and Things and decided to pick up your first suggestion which was the Croscill Townhouse. I thought this would work well, especially because my adjoining master bathroom has Townhouse accessories and window valance. Well - I hate to say this, but I'm still not sure what I'm going to do. I laid out the Townhouse Comforter on the bed and Im just not settled. It seemed to go ok but I wasn't blown away. There was alot of gold even though there are some green and burgundy stripes running through it. Not sure if I just don't like it or just need to get used to it. My first impression was not overwhelming. Maybe I just can't tell what is and is not nice in that room. I'm really stuck with this! Uggh.

Keep your receipt....I think you should love it and go ooh-aah every time you walk into your room!

Re: the King Linen website. I purchased the 7Pcs Queen Bali Chenille Tapestry Comforter Set for my mother last year and held my breath, hoping it wouldn't look too cheap, because the price really was too good to be true. It is a beautiful set, and has held up very well, so far. Everyone compliments her on it when they come to visit. Very warm and inviting colors. So, don't think you have to spend a fortune to get the look you want.

Frank, today Wednesday 1/30, Dillards - or at least my Dillards - has an extra 30@ off of the sale price, even on the 75@ off stuff. I think that Ralph Lauren Woodstock Garden set you liked is already 1/2 off and now through Saturday it will be an extra 30@ off. Now that's a deal!!

Thanks to all. I have thoroughly gone through everything that has been recommended (and even bought a few things and tried them out on my own), but nothing has worked. I know that sounds strange with so many choices and ideas out there, but I'm starting to feel like I should have not picked that olive green color for the walls in my bedroom because I'm finding it very difficult to match with something that I like.

The predominant color that alot of you suggested was in the Gold family with some additional colors (like burgundy). I thought was pretty good too, until I actually went out and purchased a couple sets of bedding in this family and it just didn't look right in the room especially when I have a beige colored rug. I know the cutomer service people at my local stores on a first name basis as I have purchsed and returned several bedding items over the past couple months.

I realize that I have thrown alot of qualifiers into this mix(ie: no floral; traditional; use for man or woman)which is making this choice even more difficult. I just haven't felt right about anything so far.

I keep going back to one of my original comments in this long thread which is that - if I could invent bedding for my room, what would it look like? What would be the pattern? The right colors? I still don't know, but thanks to all for trying.

Maybe what you want is something monochromatic. The olive green and beige carpet should be a neutral backdrop to quite a lot of things. Have you tried workign with green bedding?

Maybe even go different shades with solids, with only an accent pillow or something to break it up.

It sounds like you'd be happier with something just rather plain.

Thanks to all for the great bedding ictures (especially the one's against the Olive green wall). It does help. I think one of the issues remining though is how the colors look - not only against the olive wall, but also against the beige rug. I think some of the beige, gold and cream color bedding ideas (although nice against the olive wall), may not look as nice when placed on a floor of beige carpet. Thanks for trying. I am still looking!

Beige is neutral, everything doesn't have to contrast or it will get busy. You might also bring some contrast between the bedding and flooring with a rug runner or small accent rug. Low contrast is soothing and serene.

How about a moss colored toile? Black would be nice too with the green.

I think a rich tropical bed set would look terrific with that color scheme and I know a lot of men like the tropical look. Maybe something from this site will inspire you, perhaps palm trees.
