Recommendation on range hood?

We are looking to get a range hood that goes under the cabinet. Any ideas? The KD assumed we'd be getting a OTR microwave but we don't like that location.

So we are looking for something not too big, aesthetically pleasing, funcational/good ventilation.

Pics are great!

There are lots of options. My main advice is figure out what you want then look for it on e-bay or Craigslist. Range hoods are such completely overpriced items. This is not where you want to overspend in your kitchen.

fetusbodine, is there a picture of hood in your blog? I couldn't find any.

I'm looking for anything in particular. I will definitely look up prices online!

We need more information! How big is your stovetop? What btu's total does it have? The rough rule of thumb is 100 cfms for every 10,000 btu's. So, e.g., if you have 4 burners, and each one has 15 btu's, that's 60,000 total, you should get a hood with 600 cfms.

Also, try to get one with baffle filters instead of mesh filters. Baffle filters are more efficient, easier to clean and last longer.

Finally, find out what size diameter is your exhaust duct. If you are installing an exhaust duct, make sure it is at least 8" or 10" diameter. If you are working with one that is already there and it is 6", that will limit your choices of hoods, but there are still plenty on the market that only need a 6" duct, just not as many. You just need to check the hoods' specs.

Finally, for us to help you, please give us a budget. Hoods vary extremely in price.

Thank you! I really did not know ANY of that info. We haven't gotten our range yet. We are getting an electric slide-in of some sort so I am guessing we will need about 600 cfms. We only have room for a 30in hood (30in range)as KD built around those specs. We currently do not have any exhaust duct as we have moved the kitchen's location. So I will be able to size to the needs of the range/hood. DH is worried about the venting look horrendous outside because it is right on the back deck. Also, any suggestions?

Now budget. This is something we never really put in. I don't want to spend a ton of money for that reason and because there are other things I would like to put money towards. I do want to spend enough so as not to get a hood just for the sake of having one and thus never really working well.

So does up to $300 give me anything to work with?
