If the room is used mostly for the kids to play in and it's a casual setting, the first one works best. It's a playful rug with lots of color and it sounds like it will suit your room perfectly. Besides, if it's less expensive, that in itself suits the room best with kids playing and possibly drinking and eating in there.

The second one has the traditional look, but those brown "feather-like" things on there gives me a Southwest impression. It's pretty if you like that kind of look.

To me, the second rug looks to be of much better quality than the first. The first, while certainly casual, is just "ho-hum" and looks like something you'd find at just about any big box store. A rug like the second one can go as casual or as formal as you like. It's a classic, and could work in any number of room styles.

I like the second one better and think that while it's more formal, it would hide spots and stains better.

I like the 2nd rug as well. Would you tell us what company & color it is--I am looking for a rug too & I like this one a lot.

debbimc - sorry, I don't have any info on the second rug. The seller's note only mentions it is from India, which could mean pretty much anything, LOL.

I do agree that the second rug looks like much better quality. It is wool, while it is likely the first rug is manmade.

Anyone else have an opinion?

The second rug is marvelous. If it's well-made it will last a long time, probably much longer than the other one. The main question is, which one do you like? Go with your gut feeling. If you love the second one, you'll feel great every time you look at it.
