Which Bedside Lamps?

Which lamps do you prefer for our bedside tables? Please disregard the mess & our yucky brown protective kitty cover on the bed. The green toile curtains just came yesterday & I began hanging them today. The whole bedroom is being done in varying shades of green. Bedding is mostly white & cream w/ a bamboo colored duvet & green accent pillows. Pictures are black & white in ornate gold frames.

Can't afford a new bed so my sister & I will be making a semi sheer slipcover for the head & foot board.

Bedside tables are staying.

If I use this lamp I could also swap out the shades for black ones. It's hard to see but the columns are fluted crystal & sort of sparkle. There is also an old all glass chandelier in the MBR.

I think the first one is better suited/sized for your nightstand. It might be fun and dress it up a bit with a different (black) shade. Good luck.

Definitely like the first one, like the same shade, too. The crystal look is kinda fun against the rustic stand.

    I like #1 best!

    Definitely #1.

Just out of curiosity: Why are you slipcovering the bed? It looks like a lovely headboard to me. :)

"Pictures in ornate gold frames," (lamp #2).

First one with a black shade. I like the size and scale of it.

The first one. The second lamp is great as far as color and shape, but is too small next to the headboard. I am not sure about the black shade idea - I reserve judgement on that until you get the headboard slipcover on, etc.

Can't wait to see the finished space!

The second one. The first looks too tall and heavy for the area. The second one also plays off the black of the drapes & headboard and the brass/bronze matches the table hardware.

I agree w/orgainic........leave the headboard. It should look great with black toile drapes!

I like both lamps a lot but like #1 a little bit better due to the height/size for your night stand and headboard. I love the headboard and would not change it.

Actually, I'd love to see a photo of the whole room. :)

I'd vote for the second one. I agree that the size is a bit small, but it works so much better with the nightstand.

I too think #2 is a little small but the better choice - it will pull in the frames and black well.

Place lamp closer to bed, a nice floral arrangement nearer the wall and in front of that, some small snapshots in the "gold" frames.

I love them both! I agree that the scale of the first is a bit better, but I'm really drawn to the second one. I'm wondering, though, if it's because of the black toile and black headboard that it's next to. Since you'll be covering the headboard and changing to green toile, that could change everything. Could you possibly post a pic when you have the new curtains up? Also, can we see the rest of the room? I really adore what you've shown us so far!

You could also place the gold/black lamp on a chunk of marble, nice piece of wood, or a couple vintage books to give it a little more "stature".

I am another one for # 1 but with the black shade.

First lamp looks out of character with the wallpaper, bedding, etc. Room is steeped in character. Let it stay, lamp #2.

Patricia: LOL. Sounds good to me. :)

The curtains that are in the pic are the green toile curtains that I just hung today. The green is very dark. I think the thing that kept throwing me off w/ the lamp in the 1st pic was the introduction of a new tone in the rm since it is a monotone green rm. w/ accents of black in the bed & the black & white pictures & then small doses of purpley & dusty blues blues that tie in to the stained glass window. I'd post another pic of the entire rm. but quite frankly I am too ashamed of it at the stage of disarray that it is in. My alcove is finished & it will give you an idea of how the rest of the rm. will look when it is done. I have linens to complete at this stage, accessorizing (?) & a general clean up as the room became a catch-all while we tried to get the other rms. renovated in time for my visiting family over Christmas.

For kicks I put a found black shade on lamp #1:

    Gorgeous!

Gorgeous! I love that lamp with the black shade with that headboard in that room.

Seeing it lit, with the black shade I now saw lamp #1. Beautiful alcove, great choices!

Ahhh! That alcove is too gorgeous! Hard to say with such a small view of the setting with the lamps, but I like #1 and think it looks even better with the black shade :) Perfect! imo.

    They're both really pretty lamps.

ttodd - the black shade, with the #1 lamp lit, is gorgeous against the green wall, and your bed and drapes! Really pulls it all together....you've got wonderful tastes!

Perfect! What a difference the black shade makes. The alcove is amazing. Can't wait to see the whole room finished.

While rearranging lamps I set lamp #2 on the bureau in the alcove & liked what I saw. Tell me what you think. I also got the panels hung on that window. I need to hang the valances now.

    My necklace valet:

hmmmm, as much as I like your smaller black lamp, to me it looks like it's competing with your flowers in the alcove pics, kind of crowds it. I love your bust (that sounds weird, doesn't it.) Let me change that to say I'm crazy about your "necklace valet."

I can see how it looks too crowded so I put the little lamp back in:

My bust thanks you but now my derriere is jealous!

Back to the original lamp question: Now that we've agreed that lamp #1 w/ a black shade is the best option, what shape of shade would you suggest?

I really like the black lamp much better than the little one. It gives some height there, and is a nice transition between the black and white photo and the white chest. The little lamp is too small.

What I think you need is to take the hydrangea and put them in a lower container - perhaps a green pedestal bowl - so that they sit lower than the height of the necklace valet (which I love). It will pull some color down to the top of the chest, and create kind of a cascade arrangement of high on the left (lamp) to low (florals), which will carry your eye from left to right to the window.

LOVE both lamps -- and the taller one on the white chest looks simply wonderful!

And the crystal one looks amazing with a black shade! Perhaps more of a "pagoda" style? Measure the original lampshade -- for height.

Both elegant choices! Well done! :)

As much as I love that cute little lamp, I like the taller one on the white chest better giving more balance and I think it goes better.

I really love both lamps with black shades and I think you have two wonderful new lamps for your room.

I love that lamp in your alcove. The gold really looks nice with the gold dresser pulls.

I like Les' suggestions of putting the flowers in a lower vase, or maybe even taking the flowers out all together. I like the photo of the bust and the books sortof spread out more - then add the gold lamp and take off the flowers and little lamp.

Lovely alcove and bedroom...love the window--green toile is sooo pretty...the black lampshade would be my choice.
