Weekly project proclamations!

I'm determined to find drapery fabric this week for my LR. Some of you might have read on the "plaid drapes" thread that the fabric I liked was discontinued so it's back to square one for me. I poured over my window covering books and magazines again this past weekend and found some other fabric styles I would be fine with if I can't find a plaid I like. And I'm hoping to finish painting the window trim in the MB. We had a light dusting of snow last night and it's cold so I can't open windows to paint yet. So I'm off to the fabric store which I'd much rather do anyway.

Any other proclamators? Share what you hope to accomplish this week!

I vow to get the bathroom door mirror up. I have (I think, I hope) all of the ingredients together now & a (I think, I hope) workable plan. If all goes well this will be an easy one.

Do all of the touch-up painting in said bath, & the office. Another relatively easy one (she says confidently)

Now for the harder stuff: Get the friggedy-fraggin' moulding for the front door figured out & done! Well, 90% done - I need one board ripped & my table saw is gasping its last breath, so I'll give myself some slack on that one.

Start a "please help me" thread for my stairway project - hopefully have a plan in place with what to do & how to do it. Either that, or give up & hire Men With Tools. (see comment about the dying table saw)

Client list is very small this week, meaning I should be home enough to get this all done!

This is a *great* idea :)

    1) paint trim for kitchen and master bedroom and get it installed

    2) finish master bedroom door and casing and get it up too

    3) finish painting laundry room and coat closet doors

    4) finish sanding front door

    5) extra credit: prune fruit trees (highly unlikely but you never know :))

I hope this help me get motivated, too!

    1) Complete the finishing of the sheet rock work by the front door where the doorway was closed off.

    2) Paint walls and faux finish where sheet rock was hung.

    3) Hang 2nd curtain rod in living room.

    4) OT, finish getting tax info together.

It's mostly decisions that have to be made here. We need to solve the problems related to our looming granite countertop installation. Guys are coming out to template next Monday, so we (more me than DH, as usual) have to decide:

    - Are we going to go with the granite place's "free" sink?
    - Whatever sink we use, should we get the D shape or a rectangular shape?
    - Are we going to try to find another faucet or go with the granite place's no-name faucet? If we do try to find another faucet, how? I spent the whole weekend researching this, and I still don't understand how anyone chooses stuff like this. There is no objective information out there.*
    - Are we going to take a chance and let them reinstall the garbage disposal (and because it's not new, they will not guarantee that it won't leak) or get a new one?

Also need to remove the trim around the kitchen windows before the granite is installed.

*Consumer Reports did a WORTHLESS report on faucets. They claim they tested 16 faucets, but they didn't say which ones they tested, and they declared that they all worked equally well, so it doesn't matter what kind of faucet you get, as long as it's not the "cheapest" -- but what the heck does that mean? (Can you tell I'm frustrated here?)

BEFORE I will allow myself to finish projects like painting endtable, making wts for bedroom, finish hutch for kitchen, more thrift shopping, all of those interesting things, I MUST...
    finish organizing my house.
MLK weekend We started with the 3rd floor( its a glorified finished attic) and got rid of stuff and made it liveable again- its an office and sewing studio. organized my fabric.( i.e. played with it)
This past weekend I reorganized my bedroom closet and drawers.
I need to clear up all the stuff that landed in my laundry room from the attic- which means another sorting and serious purging.
    Linen closet purging and reorganization.
Downstairs, all the storage areas, highboy, china closet, lowboy, hutch, every drawer and desk will be gone thru, purged and finally the whole downstairs storage will make sense instead of stuffed willy nilly.
Oh and then theres the matter of my laundry room which is where everything homeless lands( except for the 3 chairs in the boat in the garage.)
Can you tell that I am only organized at work and would much rather play with paint and fabric and thrift shop than take time to put things away in an orderly fashion I know where everything is but no one else does. :)

LOL Sue, I was "organizing" my trims this weekend, with the intent to "organize" the whole sewing room...instead I got four or five boxes of trim organized, but really...it was just play. I'm working on two feather trimmed pillows as we speak LOL

Ok for my proclimations...I'll finish the curtain for the master bath hopefully today (just a hem left after working on it Sunday...and I have to find an iron). And I'd like to get the two feather pillows finished as well, at least square and stuffed, with hand sewing for next week (I say that all the time...in reality, I have half dozen pillows safty pinned shut...for gads sake!

I'm leaving town for a few days to look at the other house so one other project is a must...to finish room drawings on each room so I can do the walk through with every thing I need. Not necessarily a project of decorating this week, but they'll come in handy in the future.

I'm two steps forward, five steps back lately, but my goal is to keep working on my staircase walls. I'm not going to kill myself this week as I spent too much time on pain killers last week trying to get it all done fast. Plus the wallpaper will come in the mail. But I vow to keep chipping (literally, right now) away at it and get it done. I will also clean up the terrible mess I've made with my chop saw and find a place to put my left over lumber... though I'm wondering why not just throw the remaining masonite out. Can't think who would want it. Maybe ad it free in CL.

Once I get cleaned up around here, I need to fix my kitchen drawer that's broken, fix my chairs for CL, and advertise my chairs and antique table in CL.

You've all worn me out with the listings of your many projects so I have only one item on my list: Take as many naps as possible!

All right, yesterday and today I bagged up decorative items that I no longer need. Yesterday's items which I took to work and put in the lounge there have already disappeared and the rest I'm taking tomorrow. I love the idea of someone being able to use something to make their home nicer in these hard economic times without having to spend any money.

Tweaked the master bedroom decor and I like the room even better now. That's it for the week. (I have fibromyalgia so can't do all those awesome things you ladies seem to continually accomplish. Fortunately my husband is an angel and does all the difficult things I'm not able to do.)

harriethomeowner: My 2cents: I would not go with the granite supplier's free sink.

I remodeled my kitchen a little over a year ago and had to make the same decision. (free sinks must be their thing!) Granite is so expensive and I think it/you deserve something much nicer than the free sink. It's not worth that much anyway. I ended up getting a black granite composite sink. Ordered it on line, free shipping, and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. I'll try to post pictures.

I vow to decide between ORB and brushed nickel for my kitchen cabinets and stop changing my mind every other day!

And to STOP looking for a new comforter to go in my MBR, it's wearing me out and distracting me from my kitchen reno.

And thanks to Angelcub I'm finally nailing down my new hardwood flooring decision! :)

Oceanna, my Grandmother was an artist and one of her most beautiful paintings a very large portrait of an Indian woman and child, was painted on the back of masonite- it has a great canvas like texture when painted. Of course that was painted in the 70s,so masonite may not have that texture on the back. Another of her paintins was on the front of masonite it is of lady slippers. Just in case you paint other than walls!

Some masonite still has that texture! I think itÂs the thinner masonite that has that screen-like texture. IÂve bought thicker that did not. ItÂs considered a very good painting surface, as a matter of fact I am considering it for a big triptych IÂd like to do; stretching the canvas would be too hard.

My project would be to try to finish some I have left undone! But I should address things in urgency order, and find a home for all the items displaced by getting a "new" dining room. I took down all the bookcases that held art objects (pottery, glass, metal; acquired over 20 years of doing art fairs. ItÂs fun to trade with other artists but IÂve done it too much); now I have to figure out where to display these things.

During the past week, I hung pictures in both baths, LR and bedrooms and hallways. Still have to do kitchen and dining rooms and hang door as master headboard. I rested on Sunday and Monday and will start with kitchen tomorrow. I just moved in two weeks ago and so have lots of stuff to organize. But it is looking more like "home" every day. My best addition is a birdfeeder hung right outside guest room south facing window which has a small inner ledge. The computer desk is in front of window and so a cat or two of mine can bask in the sun and enjoy watching finches and dove birds during the day.

We want to get the hard wood floor in the kitchen finished this week! Only two more trim peices to go! And many nail holes to fill!

Dang it! You have no idea how much I've avoided this thread!

Getting DD's curtain rod ung up in her room and if I can scrape together enough rings in the house, actually hanging them.

    There - I wrote it!

Progress! The bathroom door mirror is FINALLY up! I had even more glitches along the way - amazing how such a seemingly simple project created bugs every step of the way - but is UP! :)

I realized that the simple paint touch up part of my vows involve a whole lot of moulding repair & filling & even buying a little more moulding - interesting how I forgot about those little details - but I WILL get it done this week!

Oh yeah, one more thing - may beadboard wallpaper arrived today! So prepping to get that up on the office ceiling, & with a little luck, maybe even getting installed this wknd, is a possibility! (but not a promise lol)

Reading this thread, it feels as if my next task should be to find out if there's an Underachievers Anonymous in my area. You guys are amazing!

Did some of my list! Ordered a sink and a faucet. We will have to move the templating date back, though, if they aren't delivered before Monday.

Like ttodd, I've been avoiding this thread. ;-)

But I'll commit: I want to find or order end tables for the living room, and post a thread to get advice on finishing that room. I'd also like to start my gel stain project to darken some bookshelves to move into that room.

I proclaim that I want to:

    Find two upholstered chairs for my living room (that recently was the toy room until I moved all of my dc's toys upstairs)that will go nicely with my new sofa;

Find a new wall organizer for my ds's bedroom for all of his toys; and

Buy some pillow inserts for the Pottery Barn pillowcovers I bought on clearance after Christmas.

It's great to see so many of you proclamating! : ) I'm finding this a huge motivator even if most of my time so far has been driving to fabric stores.

moonkat, whoo hoo! on getting that mirror up! I've had a few of those "buggy" projects, too. I hope the beadboard wallpaper goes more smoothly.

organized my fabric.( i.e. played with it)
Oh do I know all about that! I should take a pic of my fabric closet in my sewing room. You'd feel much better about yours. ; )

Update for me: I found another plaid fabric I like so I brought home a sample plus a few other samples that may go with it. I still like the other plaid better but I can't find it . . . sigh. Ok, I'm not going to whine considering there are so many other worse things happening to people right now, including my son losing his job. Geeze, when will it all end?

So how are the rest of you doing with your to-do lists?

    Diana

In the spirit of keeping the proclamations alive (& inviting anyone else to play along!), My mirror is up, and the touch up painting in the bath (which was far more extensive than I realized at first - interesting how many details I forgot all about, because they've been waiting for SO long to be completed!) is 90% done.

AND, because my wallpaper arrived, the front door moulding has been pushed back so that I can focus on the wallpaper project. Since I have friends coming over to help install it on Saturday morning, the prep work (LOTS of filling, sanding, priming) is being fast tracked, & I'm happy to say, is moving right along :)

Well I didn't get the rod or curtains hung BUT you did motivate me to get our boys new beds put together (DS2 is finally out of his crib) and a huge hole in the wall fixed!

    Thank you!

I'm gonna finally paint this armoire someone was throwing out
and I was lucky enough to get, I'm just torn between two colors I got Black which I was going to put a stain/glaze over or Merlot red, Its just going in a small downstairs family room off the kitchen to house a 27 inch TV that we usually watch during the week in the evening.

Pick a paint color for the basement family room, and stop changing my mind!!! The floor installers are coming Monday, the 9th, and I have to get that room painted. Well, I'd like to have it painted before they do it. I know, I'll have to touch up, but I prefer the idea of having the paint already done. But, I am sick on the couch with an earache and sore throat, that I got from my four-year-old.

It's looking like LA Pale Gold 2 may be the winner. Tried to find photos of it, to no avail. Might have found one. Anyone ever used Gold 2?

You can't beat the price on that armoire maggie! Good luck w/ the painting of it.

janetta you could start a thread asking about your color. Is there a way to do a search within just the Gallery? If there is, I haven't figured it out :(

My proclamations for the week are moulding, moulding, moulding! Need to find a short piece for the bath, a piece for the office ceiling, & work on the front door (which didn't get done last week, but I'm sure you'll all forgive me, because you know what I was doing instead!!!)

I swear I am NOT going to get started on the stair project right now because a) I need a break & b) other aspects of life are falling behind & that is not a good thing.

How did everyone else do who hasn't checked in yet w/ last week's projects?

Janetta--LA pale gold 2 is basically the same color as the infamopus SW Blonde. I have LA gold in my kitchen and love it. I went further down the SW paint chip for my GR and BR. Love those colors also.

Just checking in! I finished all of my projects for the week, and next weeks too. As a matter of fact I started going down the lists in this thread and finished everyones! LOL.
So, actually I need to push ALL of my tasks to next week, or perhaps the following week. Word.

I have bought 6 oak stair treads, and if I can just get them stained and varnished that will be enough for this week. I hate staining wood - I always feel like my mom's looking over my shoulder and rolling her eyes because she is such a perfectionist.

After that, only 14 more steps to go, and a landing, and the risers . . .

Moonkat, what are you doing to your stairs?

daisy if I only knew lol! First I have to figure out how to deal with all of the mismatched moulding & baseboard transitioning from the office to the basement, & how to cover up the blocked doorway on one side of the bottom, & whether to do a niche on each side at the bottom & if so, how to make it happen, & I'm trying to figure out what I want to use for a stair rail, & how to execute the corner at the top of the stairs, & what color to paint the walls, & what kind of floor covering to put at the landing. & along the way, in the back of my mind, will be thoughts of what to do with the stairs themselves. Which, in all likelihood, will simply be sanded, patched & painted. Much as I would love new wood, I don't see that happening at this time.

    OK now I'm tired!

I did start a thread some time ago with questions about the stairs, got a few good ideas & got started, but I got side tracked when I replaced the windows in the office & decided I needed to start there.

Sink and faucet were delivered by Saturday, the guy from the granite place came yesterday to template, and we are on the schedule for installation next Monday.

Also talked with one tile installer and have made contact with another about the backsplash, and dragged DH to a tile store to get ideas. My goal for this week is to try to get someone lined up to do the work so we don't go another nine years with no backsplash.

Moonkat, The thing that started my second do-over on the stairs is that I found a beautiful wood floor for upstairs and I wanted to use that on my landing. I"ve been able to get a really good match to it on the new treads. So, the landing wood might be a good place for you to start. The oak treads from Lowes are only $22 each, which isnt too bad. Let me know if you need info on painting the existing stairs.

Well, I haven't accomplished much since last week. I did get the sheet rock work finished, but I had some friends over for the super bowl game and it was suggested that I put up some wainscot in the entry (where I was doing the sheet rock work). I have the panels in the garage and hope to get them out today and get an idea of how it will look. I'm sure I'll be posting for opinions!

daisyadair, thanks for the price and idea on the treads from Lowes. I think I'm going to start buying those a few at a time so I can finally get my stairs done as well. Are you finishing them before you put them down? Also, what varnish are you using?

lafonda, the wainscot in the entryway sounds really nice. I am using Sherwin WIlliams Wood Clasics oild stain in Classic Cherry on my treads with the SW satin varnish over them. Doing a few at a time is the best way - it's a PITA!

I love the color of the new treads! It goes great with the landing wood, too (at least on my monitor). We have bare plywood on our stairs now, and I need risers as well. I asked about the varnish because I'm assuming it needs to be "tougher" because of the wear? After I get a few pieces, I'll make a visit to the SW store. Thanks!!

Happy to see this thread revived and so many projects in the works and getting done. Love that armoire! And those stair treads are gorgeous! Btw, those stair treads make great shelves, too. We used them for our kitchen open shelving.

I ordered the fabric for my drapes so now I'm in wait mode on it. It should take 2-3 weeks to arrive. Meanwhile I'm still painting trim and cleaning out my sewing room. I am purging fabric big time, plus a lot of other crafty stuff that I know I am never going to use. I see a yard sale in my future. ; )

Carry on, proclamators! You're doing great! : )
