Lighting above Downdraft Range

My small 1939 kitchen is 9'x 15'. Along 1 wall is a downdraft range, with approximately 24" of dark brown granite countertop on 1 side and 26" of butcher block countertop on the other. The wall above the range will have a wood "mantle" shelf of sorts with a tile niche below the shelf. I've chosen to purposely leave cabinets off this wall to help the room look wider. This backsplash/mantle area will be tiled to the ceiling in bisque 2"x 4" crackle tile to give it a vintage look.

Question: This area needs lighting from above since there are no cabinets for underlighting. There is also no vent hood for task lighting, either.

With 6" recessed cans, what type of bulbs would be appropriate?
