I have a modern bed in my son's room with an antique piece (actually he has two..an amoire short enough for him to reach, and a side table built of antique suitcases which you can't see here). I don't worry about antiques and mixing wood color...they flow fine :)

ale, you might consider an iron or some other type of metal bed. It could even be white and not feel like it's clashing with any wood in the room.

I agree with brutuses. I think a white iron daybed, with a trundle if possible for any sleepovers, is a great looking as well as practical option for girls. I've seem plenty of them for sale on my local CL so perhaps you will be able to find one as well.

aleighjc - When my children were growing up, they had antique white iron beds, mixed with antique wood stained furniture. Looks great together with the right accents.

Question...How do you clean the ceiling? Do you worry about dust, spiders and spider webs on the ceiling?

LOL now this answer is going to sound bad....I don't clean it, I let the cleaning lady do it :oP

We don't have spiders here (nor fleas or ticks) :o) Just big bear and moose trying to kill you...and they never hide in the drapes :)

It's just a quick vacuum to dust it regularly though, not too bad ;) especially if I'm not doing it LOL

I hear ya!!! I don't do the cleaning around here much, either. Can't remember the last time I had to clean a toilet...my pet peeve.

Anyway, I think the ceiling is wonderful (and I am sure it helps keep the room warm) but, my children could have never had anything like that, because of their allergies.

Maye you could add a bed without a head board and instead add something old fashion on the wall. A shelf with objects, or an old door, or painting .... my sister in law used a weathered gate.
