I have been remiss about posting information on my kitchen remodel and I apologize. It has been on my to do list for over a year. (So has finishing the final touches on my kitchen remodel, but that's another story.)

The paint I used was Muralo Ultra Satin waterborne paint. I took an Adel white drawer front with me to the paint store and they matched it.

BM White Dove is a really close match to the Adel White. I used it to paint my island, to match my island cabs and while it initially seemed a little too white, it seems to have blended okay now. I think White Dove could use a tiny bit more yellow or red to be a totally perfect match, but for an off the shelf colour, it's pretty darn close.

Thanks so much for getting back to me, tantadoodles. I have taken in one of my doors for them to match, but they said it would be a problem because of the sheen. I've thought about roughing up one of the doors I got in as-is with steel wool or fine sandpaper and then having them match it. They can only do gallons though, and I'm not sure I want to drop $30 and have it not match up. Out of curiosity, where did you have it color matched?

It's funny you mention White Dove, donka. We had originally planned to do Ikea boxes and Scherr's doors, painted white. We chose White Dove and started out painting the cover panels, but just could not get it to look good enough (used Satin Impervo Latex) so we abandoned that idea (luckily had not bought the doors yet). I got several other white samples from BM and White Dove is actually pretty close, like you said though, not enough yellow. If anyone else wants to try White Cloud and Paper Mache were both also very close.

If your paint store gave you that song and dance, and only will color match a quart, then you need to move on to a better paint store. It's not a big deal at all for a good paint store to color match a door. Even if the sheen makes it harder to get a match, they have a program for that that measures the color more than once in different spots. And any good paint store can and will do a color match into a quart. Now, one of the 8 oz. samples, maybe they can't do that because there isn't enough added color that you can mix something that small, but mixing a quart should not be an issue. Also, if they're talking matching sheens for the paint itself, then again any good paint store has a wide variety of sheens available to match.

As for Ikea giving you the "recipe", well it wouldn't work except in the paint brand that they use. Different brands have different base componenents and adding in 1 oz of a standard yellow oxide colorant in 4 different brand white bases would yield 4 different colors. The color match system needs to color match in it's own specific brand of paint. And, again, any good paint store can do any of this with no problems.

Agree with live_wire. That's why I stopped using our local BM store; they got all haughty when I brought in the jar of leftover paint from the PO to match it for touchups when I first moved in. They told me it couldn't be done, so I went to the big box store who did it no problem, although I would have preferred a better grade of paint. Haven't set foot in BM since then.

It actually was BM that would only color match in a gallon. hm...

The paint store I used was Essex Paint in Essex, CT. I was able to purchase a quart with no problem. They saved the color match in their computer for me so that when I went back to purchase a gallon it was easy.

While I was trying to find a paint match, I had heard the same thing about difficulty in color matching a hard surface because of the sheen. I had to try several paint stores, using several different paints.

If one place doesn't feel comfortable matching the color --maybe try another that is more confident.
