In our 14' X 13' we have a lot more cans (See pic below). I don't think you'll have enough light and there's the possibility of shadows or scalloping.

Not near enough light. Add more, and put all on dimmers so you can control the levels. Especially rethink lighting your island. If that will be your primary workspace, it will need some form of lighting directly on it. Whether that be a pendant, or a semi flush fixture, it will need something.

My space is 11 x 10 Main part is 8 x 10) Over the main part I have 4, 5" cans, and a fifth over the entranceway to help light the stairway next to it. With the undercab lights that is plenty for my space. I added 2 pendants over the peninsula but have very low light in them. What about a spot over the island? My neighbor has the same kitchen - she has 4, 6" cans and it's fine, but she also has pendant lights.

I appriciate everyone's comments. Is there a guideline of how many watts per square foot to help decided how many can lights I need?

For the island most have suggested that our island is much too small for pendant light. And with our low ceilings (7' 8") that makes sense to me.

I am still hoping that someone can guide me the xenon lights - or are all xenon lights created equal?
