Another TV placement question (2 pics)

I was never able to envision a TV in my living room, and even now,when it's sitting on the floor in its box, I still can't. I wish I had room for an armoire to tuck it away, but I don't. Nor do I have the money right now for a custom-made alternative.

So........the TV (a modest 32") will be mounted on the wall presently occupied by the mirror. The top of it won't be any higher than the middle of the mirror. (The mirror, of course, is going.)

Under it, a small (29" high, 14" deep), plain painted bookcase will be placed on the floor.

I'm thinking this is going to leave a lot of blank wall. Do you think that'll look okay? If not, one option I was considering is hanging a small rug above it. I do rug hooking, so I suppose could make something for the occasion. Or black & white photography might be more compatible with the TV. I have some hung in the other half of the room (not pictured), over the piano and by the front door.

PS: The music books are spread over the coffee table because I'd invited some people to come and sing.

what is the shelf with the tapes, dvd's? is it wide enough to hold the tv (with a L shape hook to stablize it to the wall) what i'm thinking is where is the cable box, dvd player, and all the various clickers going to go? while i'm not wild about the placement (window glare) i'm sort of glad you resisited the common practice of hanging it over the fireplace....

as cozy as it looks, the green chair, lamp, and bookcase could be removed...and tv kitty cornered...

btw blank wall is ok...

Do you mean the bookcase in back of the green chair? It's from my childhood. Holds only books. The bookcase I'm painting right now is intended to hold the Roku, antenna rotator, and eventual DVD player. (I don't have cable.)

I don't anticipate much of a problem with window glare because it's unlikely I'll watch much TV during the day. I haven't been in the habit of watching TV at all for years--although I'm sure once this one is set up I'll be riveted to it for a while. But my DD and SIL gave me Netflix and Roku for Christmas, so I thought it was time I got myself a downstairs TV. :-)

Can't get rid of the green chair! (I sound like Frasier Crane's father. LOL) That's where I do most of my rug hooking.

I want friends I can invite over to sing, too!

I think the tv with the bookcase under it will be fine. It is what it is, and I think hanging pictures around the tv will just draw more attention to it.

I understand your feeling about not being able to picture a tv in your room which is so cozy (used to live in an 1820-30 log cabin with a similar feel). How large is the mirror? Could it be altered in a way to create a box over the tv that you could remove easily or swing open (attach hinges to the mirror perhaps?)? I know they make art, etc. now to hide the flat screens, but if you know someone clever...

The mirror is 33x37". That's an intriguing idea, although it would bring the mirror down even lower, and I think it's already a little too low as it is. I've been wanting to raise it, but was sort of hoping it would magically move up on its own. :-)

Dee, you could try polling your friends......maybe you know some closet (shower?) singers.

I agree that it is what it is. At least it can be mounted on the wall. Remember when all tv's were in large consoles?
Your room is cozy and inviting. I don't think a tv on the wall will change the feel of the room. Who knows? Maybe after singing you can all watch a movie!
