Why Ticor?

I had not heard of Ticor before reading this forum but am now seriously looking into purchasing two of them  main sink and prep sink. I have a several questions

1. In one thread someone made a comment about using Ticor only as a prep sink. (sorry  I wish I had the exact comment but that was before I Âdiscovered the clippings feature. I donÂt like to cite something without the source but couldnÂt find it again so it could be faulty memory) It seems upon further reading a lot of people use Ticor for their main sink as well. Is there any reason to only use it for the prep sink?

2. Ticor seems to be very reasonable in price. Why are their prices so low? Is there a trade-off between quality and price?

3. How long you have had your Ticor and would you purchase it again?

4. How does it look after years of use? We are not going to keep it pristine so I am curious as to how it will stand up to a busy family of 5 not babying it.

5. One poster commented on a problem with their zero radius sinks (again pre-clippings  sorry)  what is a zero radius and which model is this?

6. It looks like Ticor is only online  are there any brick and mortars that have them?

7. Any other Ticor related advice/thoughts

Thanks so much

I never heard of Ticor until I came here but so many people seemed to like them that I went ahead and bought two of them on Ebay. I love them!! I have the big D shaped one for my prep sink and the big single bowl one for my main sink. They are very heavy duty and come with a grate for the bottom. After a year, both look brand new still. I think the grate goes a long way in protecting the finish. Would I buy them again? Yep....in a second!! They are made in China, but since most Stainless used for all sinks comes from China or India anyway, that really wasn't a factor for me.

Zero radius sink is squared off corners, I have one and I love it. I have not had a single issue with keeping it clean in the corners, in fact I've had "Zero Problems", sorry, I'm getting a little punchy--it's the blizzard.

Here's a picture of mine from installation day, and yes I would buy it again in a heartbeat too.

We have the Ticor deep double bowl sink and have used it for 3-4 months. We are very happy with the purchase!

I have two full sized sinks in my kitchen. One is a Franke, bc I wanted the half-shelf thing (which I don't even like bc it barely holds any weight before crashing down into the bottom of the sink!) The other, to save $, is a Ticor.

In hindsight, I wish they were BOTH Ticors! The only think I'd change, in fact is I'd try to see if there were a way to get a sink wide enough, front to back, to fit my oven racks for when I want to soak them!

Don't hesitate to buy a Ticor.

I was just admiring our kitchen with my contractor (back to start work on a bathroom project) and one of the things we both commented on was the Ticor sink; he was amazed when it was installed that I had found a 16-gauge sink for so little and was amazed today at how good it still looks 18 months later.

I'd definitely buy another one (I love the sink grid that came with it too, at no extra charge).

I love, love, love my Ticor sink. Got the D-shaped S405 and am extremely pleased with it. This is not a tinny sink. It is well insulated and an amazing value. The grid, as another poster indicated, is high quality and was included as was the drain basket.

My sister has a huge Franke that she paid big $$ for, and there is no difference in their looks and performance as far as I can tell.

Got mine online at Galaxy Tool Supply.

Add me to the Ticor fan club! There is no trade off in quality for price. I have the single, deep bowl and love it as much today as I did on day one(18 mos ago). Love the grid and leave it in all the time.

I also had never heard of Ticor until this Forum. But so many people raved about them and they had the "perfect" sink for our needs, that we took the plunge and bought one for our main/cleanup sink - S405D (two bowls). The large bowl (21.5" x 18.75") is big enough to fit my biggest pans, racks, cookie sheets, and refrigerator bins. The small bowl (10.5" x 16") is still big enough to fill my largest pot yet small enough to fill for soaking utensils w/o wasting water.

Unfortunately, at the time (January 2008) they didn't have a sink that was big enough for a prep sink but small enough to fit in my corner sink base in the corner of my peninsula, so I ended up with a Kohler 5-sided, 15.75" square sink. It cost quite a bit more than the Ticor, is 18-gauge instead of 16-gauge like the Ticor, and is "wearing" exactly the same as the Ticor...i.e., a few scratches in almost two years, but nothing serious.

The Ticor sink came with 2 sink grids (one for each bowl) but I was skeptical about them. But, I figured, "what the heck, I'll give them a try"...and we love the grids! (The best thing about them, to me, is that water no longer backs up into the colander when I drain pasta!) I like them so much that I went ahead and ordered a grid for my Kohler sink (grids did not come with my more expensive Kohler sink). The Ticor grids are much nicer, though, since they are stainless steel and have a "thicker" grid. The only grids available for my Kohler are plastic covered (in white or almond) and my grid already looks slightly discolored. Oh well.

Bottom line...go with a Ticor! I wish they had had a sink I could have used as a prep sink back then!

I was about to buy a franke.. now maybe I wont from seeing this thread. Some of the plumbing supply people have told me if I have high end ss appliances such as wolf I need to go with a better sink so the stainless surface matches...,, is that silly?I am thinking a ticor is more then fine matched up to high end ss appliances??

I have a ticor 60/40 sink that is great. I ordered it from galaxytoolsupply.com. they were very nice to work with. I asked them to brush out the mirror finish divider because I was worried about it getting scratched up, and they did it for no charge. ordered on a monday, it was at my front door on wednesday! Mine came with the grids, which are very nice, and also a cutting board, which is rough and smelly and I don't like it, and also a colander, which is nothing special. but the sink and grids, well worth it!

I looked on the Galaxy Tool website and see a great undermount single bowl sink at a great price but it is 9 1/2" deep, which will bring it to about 10 1/2". I am only 5 ft tall. My current sink is a 7" overmount. For any other short people out there - is this Ticor undermount too deep for me? Do they have any that are 7 or 8"?

gwentm: I'm 5 ft. too and just had the S105-8 installed Thursday. The big bowl is 10 1/2" deep but I planned three things: use the 1" tall grids that come with the sink, put 3" and no tip out from the edge of the granite to the edge of the sink, we are a no shoes house but I wear 'house only' shoes with a small wedge b/c I have a heel issue.

I have also read on this forum that it is the taller folks who might have problems with the deeper sinks b/c of the length of the reach. When I need more leverage for deep cleaning I call my DH. ;)

I will say that my prep sink has a slight odor from the sound absorption material they used. It's black but the clean up sink's is white and has no odor.

There is a brick and mortar place in Chicago. I called them on a Thursday morning rather than use the internet and my sink arrived on Friday. The granite install guys thought the sinks were sound and in good shape.

I have a Ticor 60/40 sink and I am happy with it.

My neighbor has a Blanco sink, I examine it carefully:-). I think the Blanco sink edge is more like beveled, while the Ticor I have has a more of round edge. My old SS sink also has round edge but with even larger radius. Personally, I think the Blanco Beveled edge has a crispier look. Blanco doesn't have the sink size I preferred and there is also a major price difference. Whether the crispier look is worth the extra $$ is a personal choice, I suppose.

Are the finishes different from a Ticor to a Franke or Blanco???/

As far as I can remember, both Ticor and Blanco have similar brushed satin(?) finish.

Squigs, I can't find the Tr 1600 that you said you got in a post about single or double sinks. When and where did you get yours?

Buehl, what cabinet base do you need for yours? Is yours a 70/30 or 60/40?

Head's up to anyone else interested in Squigs Tr 1600 -called Galaxy and it's has been discontinued.

lucretzia - did they happen to say why it was discontinued? that makes me nervous!

Gwentm, I think it's the shorter people who have the advantage with deeper sinks. Taller people have to actually lean over to do things like wash dishes, but shorter people may not have to as much.

I have a small plastic stepstool. If my back hurts with my Ticor once installed, I am planning on just setting that in my sink as the perch to rest dishes on when I scrub them. I've seen people do it with the silverware tray from the DW tipped on it's side too.

squigs, they constantly change styles to keep up with the current trend. At the moment they have fewer normal or zero radius sinks, especially the smaller ones, and a lot more stainless farmhouse sinks and really really big sinks. Kind of annoying, since the sink I thought I'd settled on is also discontinued.

They didn't say why they discontinued it Squigs.

What are the dimensions of the Ticor prep sinks?
    And what about Dawiff?

I just purchased the Ticor S112 and I'm glad I did after reading many good things about Ticor. My concern is, will the width be big enough? or should I have gone small in length and larger in depth? My sink's inner dimentions are 29-1/2" x 16-1/4" x 10" Deep. OUr sink base is 33" alongside a 24" dishwasher and 15" trash bin. Will I lose that much counter space? I will have other areas to prep.

I love my Ticor s405 D shaped sink. It's not tinny, and seemed as good as much more expensive sinks for far less money. I relied on the good reviews here. Some of us have found that on the newer ones, the grates don't line up with the holes perfectly - in other words, the drain holes are slightly out of alignment. That may be a concern for some people - I don't know if it's a sign of sloppier construction, or just that something got out of whack with the equipment for this shipment..

    still, I'm happy with mine.

    Squigs -

Are you still happy that you had the Mirror finish brushed out?

Has anyone purchased the Ticor double-bowl low-divide sink? I'm wondering pros and cons...

Anyone have any idea why Galaxy Tool Supply seems to have "Sold Out" on the larger bowl sinks at their site?

Have GWers maxed them out? ;-) Is this a temporary situation?

One odd thing about Ticor. If you read far enough on there website, you will find that what they call 16 gage is the same thickness as what other manufacturers call 18 gage. Not sure how they get away with that, or why? They seem to be pretty good sinks without any exageration. (that's judging by comments here, I don't own one,)

Question for qwertyui---- In the past you raised issues about whether Ticor's 16 gauge is 16 throughout the sink. Long ago, I believe you said that a sink is stamped from a piece of stainless and therefore, certain areas within the sink cannot be 16 g because of the stretching factor. When garden webbers questioned you and your sources, you never answered.

And now, on May 11, you raise a question as to whether Ticor is calling 16 g when it should properly be rated as 18 gauge. To quote, "If you read far enough on there(sic) website, you will find that what they call 16 gage(sic) is the same thickness as what other manufacturers call 18 gage(sic). Not sure how they get away with that, or why"

Q-----"get away with that"? That connotes or implies that Ticor is claiming something untrue and they are getting away with making a false statement.

Please be kind enough to quote Ticor' website where they claim 16 g. thickness when it should accurately be called 18 g, as in other products. We all await your response.

Many of us have purchased Ticor sinks or are contemplating the purchase of Ticor sinks and are concerned by your statements of false claims by Ticor. It is important that you inform us of the basis of your claims of Ticor's bulls*** advertising.

Thanks. So looking forward to your response. I'd be interested in a Ticor but am concerned about your criticisms. I, and others, are truth seekers.

    Thanks again. Westsider

La_koala, they come and go. Sometimes it's just temporary and sometimes it's because a model is going to get replaced by something else. I've seen a lot of ticor models come and go while I've been planning this remodel that never gets started.

If you're in a hurry, I'd contact them and ask about the particular sink that interests you.

Thanks for this thread. I too was planning on buying a Franke (they have a large single sink at Costco.com now):

    http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11070167&search=sink&Mo=8&cm_re=1_en-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search&lang=en-US&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Sp=S&N=5000043 4014067&whse=BC&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&cat=49255&Dr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ne=4000000&D=sink&Ntk=Text_Search&Ntt=sink&No=2&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1

After reading this post, I am thinking I should go for the Ticor S112 (currently sold out at Galaxy Tool Supply...), but available at Main Faucet:
    http://www.mainfaucet.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=S112&gdftrk=gdfV21412_a_7c1008_a_7c4788_a_7cS112

What do you think - Franke or Ticor??

    Thanks!

A quick off-topic (sorry)..but do you notice not many drop-in models available anymore. ACK...what about those putting in laminate counters? And I notice that having holes for faucets on the sinks no longer is a standard? I suppose that means you drill holes in your counters and have to have enough room to place the faucet.
I have sent an email to ticor asking if undermount can also be drop in and let's see what they say.

I have only been using mine for about 6 weeks, but so far I think it is a great sink. I was going to purchase a professional Kohler sink for over $1000.00 and then I heard about the Ticor on this website. I love the sink grids. I have the larger bowl/smaller bowl model. So far so good.

Overstock.com has a TON of ticor sinks. Ordered our zero radius bar sink. Love it. Gorgeous and the price is right.

I too love my Ticor. The sink grate it comes with is awesome too.

I nervously bought both my Ticor kitchen sinks from Galaxy Tool Supply based solely on the recommendations here. My clean-up sink is the 105-8R and prep sink is S805. I am leery of bargains and thought these must be inferior sinks since they cost less. There MUST be a reason but I don't know what it is. They didn't have the size sink I wanted for my laundry room so I bought a Blanco for more than twice the price. It is not one bit better than the Ticors and didn't come with a grid (I wouldn't have used it in the laundry room anyway). Delivery time was just a few days from Galaxy.

Wallycat - Galaxy has several overmount sinks available.

Westsider - Here is what qwertyui may be referring to. Under 'features' on my spec sheet (which, admittedly, is from a year and a half ago), it says: "16 gauge bowl (Stronger and thicker than 18 gauge). . .16 gauge/1.2 mm Polished Rim . . . Sinks are made of high quality 18/10 Chromium/Nickel Stainless Steel." I don't understand this. My Blanco laundry room sink states on the spec sheet, "18 gauge 304 series stainless steel . . . 18/10 chrome/nickel content." As I said, all three are great, substantial sinks that do not feel or sound tinny, cheap or loud. But doesn't 16 gauge mean 16/10 chromium/nickel content?

I don't want to discourage anyone from getting a Ticor. I would do it again in a second. But there does seem to be an unexplained discrepancy there.

    Sally,
I checked and only found double bowl sinks with overmount.
    I'll check again...

    I just did a live-chat.
Sadly, a small round single bowl is all they have in under or over mount.
    Sigh.
I will probably end up with the fireclay farmhouse from IKEA.

Wallycat, I don't know if this matters to you, but the IKEA domsjo sink is ceramic, not fireclay.

Gauge refers to the thickness of the metal. Lower numbers equate to thicker metal -- so 16 gauge is thicker than 18 gauge.

The 18/10 describes the percentage of the metal that is chromium and nickel, in this case 18% chromium, 10% nickel.

So, no discrepancy between the gauge and the metal content, they are two different specs.

I've been lurking, but figured I would post about the out of stock situation. I ordered the Ticor S6513 from Galaxy Tool Supply earlier last week when they were still showing in stock. They later called to tell me they had sold out, but would be receiving a shipment somewhere around May 26th. I would imagine many of the other sold out sinks are on the same boat from China.

I just ordered the Ticor S405D directly from Galaxy Tool Supply. My KD told me to be sure and get the fitting tools for the garbage disposal. I called Galaxy and the guy who seemed pretty new didn't know what I was talking about. Then he asked someone else and told me they were out and wouldn't have them for a month to month and a half. I need them in 2-3 weeks! Anyone else who has this sink need any special parts to hook up the garbage disposal? I've tried visiting other websites but I don't see anything that resembles this.

I wish I had gone there - I would NOT recommend Mr. Direct Sinks and Faucets. They would not replace a damaged part because I did not open the box within 7 days.
