paint scheme?

I am building a new home this year and the decorating seems overwhelming at this point.

I would like to have a neutral warm color throughout with darker accents in some of the rooms. I am not keen on the white baseboards that are so in style but could go with a color that compliments the walls.

I do also like the blue for say master bath or main but do not want anything to seem to jump out. I want it all to feel connected and cozy.

does anyone have paint color suggestions or better yet pictures of your color schemes you have throughout your home??

My favorite bathroom combo of colors is BR Wheeling Neutral and Whyte blue. Simply gorgeous together for any room. I too do not like white baseboards and trim, I never use it.

I just finished painting my entire downstairs and 2 of the bedrooms upstairs. I'll tell you what I used as far as neutrals and blues go.

My favorite color that I used is BM Powell Buff. It's a very nuetral gold and is one I could have used in the entire house. I like different colors so I didn't do this. It's in the foyer and upstairs hallway as they are open to each other.I have a teal rug and a picture with some blue butterflies and they go nicely together.

My family room color is from the SW color palette. The ceiling is Antique White, trim is Believable Buff and walls are Baguette. they are all on the same strip. Many peolple here use that particular strip of colors. Whole Wheat seems to be the favorite

My first venture into blue was in my Powder Room. I usuaaly don't care for blue walls but the consultant at the BM store talked me into it. I figured it was just a small room, so , why not? It's called Gossamer Blue. Love it. Did the ceiling in Seafoam which is on the same strip. It's very calming.

In one bedroom upstairs I used Palladian Blue. It's a very muted blue green. Again, very calming. Did the ceiling the same color only in flat insread if Matte. It's a BM historical color.

The other bedroom is from BM Affinity collection and is called Hush.I want to say it is beige but it isn't really and would be a very nice whole house neutral. I did the ceiling in there also from BM Affinity collection called Constellation, a very light blue. Love the feeling in that room. At night the ceiling looks grey. Again, it doesn't shout out at you.

For all my paints I used Ben Moor's Aura Paint in Matte. For the ceilings, I used their new ceiling paint called Ultro Flat. It can be mixed in any color. It's supposed to absorb light, not reflect it.

I am so happy with all my color choices. It took me at least 2 years to decided on colors and many of the dicussions here led me to those choices.

    Good luck with your selections.

As you will have new construction, I would offer a suggestion to select a common neutral and co-exist with it for the first year. My reasoning is that as your new home settles, moisture in the materials evaporates and construction errors become apparent, you will have drywall nail pops, tape seam failures and the like. The builder knows this will happen and provides you with a 1-year follow-up inspection to make necessary repairs. Accordingly, painting will be necessary following this step.

My recommendation is to select a livable color, reside in your home and evaluate colors with the lighting and furnishings and decorate when the house is ready.

Our home has various tans in the public spaces and some blues and green tones in other rooms. Room photos are viewable from the link on "My Page". Enjoy your new home.

this is why i love garden web forums.. such generous people!

yaya - i looked up the tan - lovely but could nit find the whyte blue, what color do you like for trim? any photos?

denali- wow, i would love to see pictures of your rooms. i have looked up most the colors and they look like contenders

fmn- excellent idea, i did not think of that, again, why i love all the help here.

I think it is a great idea to go with the neutral and live with it for reasons such as living in it to see what needs changing and what might need repainting due to construction. I do however hope though to pick a "strip" of co-ordinating colors I most likely will use so the painted trim will match and color added to other rooms will work too.

THANKS - keep suggestions coming for this newbie house builder - decorator

In our open concept Kitchen, DR, LR, I painted SW Whole wheat before furniture, rugs, or window treatments. All that was there was SW Alabaster trim and med red oak and hickory wood floors. I've since added all the other elements and wouldn't change a thing. Love it at all times of day and night :)
I DID stress out over it, but it is just what I wanted--neutral with slight gold tone.
Our master BR is SW Comfort gray (very close to BM Grey Wisp)--very soothing.
The guest BR and bath will need updating soon--not sure on those yet, but I know the Whole wheat will go with almost anything!
