New comforter pics

The first picture is the before. I made the shades after seeing RedBazels. They just never seemed to match the bedding just right though. I got a new comforter and some curtains. I need to get a decorative rod though, or cover the one that is showing. I also lowered the lamps , they just seemed to high , and they were hard to reach. Comments welcome!

Very nice comforter!! A couple of things I see.
    1. I would paint the curtain rod a dark red or whatever color the curtain underneath is, so that I doesn't show up so much. (I'll be they stand out more in the photos than in real life!)
    2. I would put the tv where the round basket is, it looks a little smooshed where it is now. Get a piece of furniture tall enough so that you could see the t.v. from bed.,
Otherwise I think it looks great!

Actually, honestly, I like the before picture much better. Sorry, I know that isn't what you wanted to hear.

I really don't think the satiny drapes and the white lamp cords don't work.

Maybe the lamps were too high before, but lowered the cords don't look right. I'm not sure why the bed is angled so can't comments but to say if placed flat against the wall you would have room for two small nightstands and lamps.

Since you said, "comments welcome", here goes. I like the before better also. That red, floral window treatment is far too stunning to be covered with curtains, and the shiny satin doesn't work with the fabric of the shade, imo. Second, the first color that jumps out to me in your new comforter is pastel blue. The colors seem way too cool for your window treatment. In your before pic, you also have those pillows that match your window treatment. That looks excellent, but certainly won't work with the new comforter. (sorry!)

hate to say it also but i like pic #1 as well. that curtain is stunning! plus i like the accent pillows that match on the bed. 2nd pic looks like the comforter style just doesn't go with the valance. i think you should either keep #1 or get rid of the valance in #2.

I have to say you did a great job on the shades, very nice, but sorry I don't really like the curtains you added in the 2nd picture with the shade. One is shiny and the other mat. I agree with sheesharee on keep #1 or take the red shade away in #2.

I like Picture#1 the best. I love the red balloon shade and the red pillows so much.

I also love picture #1 better. They are beautiful shades. Perhaps the reason that it is not going the way you envisioned is because there is too much sheen in the bedspreads. Do you have any more of that drapery material? I'd love to see a matching/coordinating bedskirt pulling from the drapery colors. As for adjusting the lamps, I think you should go with whatever height works best since I assume you are using them for reading in bed. Are the cord covers paintable? Another idea could be to route them horizontally until they drop down behind the bed.

Sorry, I can only echo everyone else's comments. I like the first pic the best. The comforter is stunning and so is the window treatment. I love the very pretty shade with the fabric echoed in the pillows.

Perhaps with our monitors we're just not seeing what you saw. The second pic just doesn't do anything for me. If you want to stick with the new comforter I think the red shade doesn't go with it.

If you need the lamps lowered, then you do. Function before form. But now the area behind the bed looks bare. It needs something, like maybe some greenery behind it or a decorative screen or something?

I absolutely love the red curtains, but I don't think either bedspread matches it. I would love to see a bedspread with darker colors in it.

Oh gosh you guys have really let me have it! LOL Well first let me say the bedding is tan, gold and sage. I know it looks sort of blue, but it is not in real life. I can take the curtains back or sell them. I just wanted something to give a little more darkening to the room. The windows face north and west, but, it is a really bright room. I still have the matching pillows I could put back on the bed.

The cord covers are paintable, I just haven't done it yet.

The tv is very small and I just have it close to my side of the bed, since DH doesn't watch it.

I have the bed angled because it seems to look best that way.

I can include another picture of the room that shows the opposite corner.

I think your arrangement looks lovely in a small space. It looks like your bed is flanked by windows and I can see how the light could be a problem; however I don't think those are the right drapes. Have you considered a room darkening shade or wood blinds below? The cellulars you have in the first pic don't really do much--esp. in the light colors, but you can get them to be room darkening.

Try putting the pillows back on the bed and show us again.

I know how discouraging it can be to make a change and have the folks here say they like it different. The most important thing though is you have to like it--esp. with a bedroom which is such a personal space. Remember you are decorating for you and your DH as you are probably the only ones who go there.

I love the red curtain you made. However, I don't think it matches your new bedding. The gold in the comforter is similar to the gold in red curtain, but the rest of the main bedding color is not visible in it. It just doesn't work. I also think you should take away those extra curtains. What I would do is get a room darkening roller shade and install it behind the red curtain. That way, when it's pulled up you won't see it or the hardware at all. You can simply pull it down when you need to block the light.

I would try and pick a color out of the red curtain and buy a solid bed covering in that color. Then use the pillows that match.
