Finally a center kitchen light.

I ended up getting a little side tracked on the cabinets. It's all good though, I finally found a center light for the kitchen and it's up. :) I met my DH out for lunch yesterday and stopped at an antique mall on the way home and found it sitting there waiting for me. The base was originally white, I repainted it yesterday to match and my DH rewired ( new socket and cord ) and hung it for me.

The globe is almost 20" across at the bottom. It's out of a school that was built in the 1920's .. I paid $50/plus tax for it, which I thought was pretty good considering what a new one this size would cost.

That light looks perfect in your room! I haven't been on GW much lately so I don't think I've seen your kitchen before. I love the way you've mixed the modern and the old together. Don't you just love a great find like that?

    OOOOOOh that's just perfection!!!!

Looks great! I'm no expert, but I'd be happy with the price too. You'd pay more than that at Rejuvenation, I'm sure!

    It IS perfect!

Wow, that's a beautiful light! I think you got a great deal too, especially since the shade is a bit different - it looks wider and not as "blobby" as the more commonly seen schoolhouse shades. I looked at millions of them before I bought one on ebay (the blobbier kind - cool but not nearly as fabulous as yours.

Beautiful light for a wonderful kitchen. I love finding one of a kinds like that, good job.

It's absolute perfection! I just love your fresh, happy colors!

Love that color green. The light could not be more perfect for that space. Beautiful kitchen.

    Couldn't be better! Just precious!

I'm not much of a green person, but am falling in love with how you're doing your kitchen.... That light is perfect, and the whole room is going to be delightful with your mixture of old and new.

    Absolutely perfect. Congrats.

    I'm loving your kitchen.

That is unbelievably *right*! And compare it to Schoolhouse Electrics -- unbelievably better deal :)

A perfect compliment to the look of your 'new' kitchen! It was meant to be.

Bravo! You did it again. Take a bow, zipdee.

Zipdee, it's perfect! The touch of green you painted on it makes it look like it was made for your room, and the style is just super.

If you could travel back in time... you'd probably pay about $.42 for it. Can you imagine the shock on the faces back then if they knew what you paid? lol!

It could not be any better. Is your neck sore from looking up at it?? Mine would be. I decree that when you add something to your kitchen you must repost all of the kitchen, not just the one. pretty please?

    Just perfect

Wow, couldn't be any better! Love the way you have used the jadeite color. Really makes your kitchen pop! Would love to see more pictures of the room.

Thanks so much for all the encouraging comments and taking the time to look at the pictures guys! I really appreciate being able to come here to look at all the beautiful decor pics, to learn from you all and also to share what's going on here with the house. I'm really pleased with the light, I was actually very surprised to find it .. I went in looking for dishcloths to make into half curtains which I'm still searching for. The kitchen is coming together with each addition though and the hunt for each piece to the 'puzzle' has been a lot of fun.

I'm sorry I posted this and ran yesterday. I used the time to get the countertop finished though, my DH and I installed it last night. I snapped a few additional shots of the kitchen and of the cabinets with the counter on. The eating area is still a work in progress, hopefully I can find a much large table soon.

Here's the cabinets we repainted for a sideboard with the countertop on too :

Oh Zipdee I love it! (And I notice you no longer have a beadboard surround for the hood!)

I totally adore the jadeite green tables and accents.

For the 2nd time now, I dreamed I was in your house. I looked up at the kitchen ceiling, and the new light wasn't there, and I asked you about it. I also kept calling you Zipdee, and your husband kept looking at me strangely, and it hit me that I should call you by your real name in your home! I pet your Daisy, and we started talking house renovations. Strange, huh??!!

Are you guys to a point yet that you'd want to contact a local magazine? I swear, you guys really, really need to. What you've done with your home is amazing.

Everything about that kitchen is wonderful. I so..........love it. You and your husband are such fast workers.

When can I come and visit. I will bring cookies??? thanks for posting more pics. sigh.

Perfect light! Wonderful kitchen!! Enjoy :)

Thanks so much everyone!! I'm glad the counter is on, it was super simple to paint, but routering out the underside took a bit more time than I though to get it to fit how I imagined it would.

Reno .. I think your subconscious is telling you to pack your Bassets in the car and make a road trip to NC! :) Just imagine the fun we could have thrifting and working on projects together, what a ball! Yup, beadboard surround is down .. no matter how many ways I looked at it, it just wasn't what I had in mind. I'm much happier with the hood vented in back for now, I still haven't ruled out having a stainless vent cover made sometime in the future though, but right now this arrangement works fine for me. We still have a whole lot left to do downstairs. The living room and family room need a total cosmetic revamp. We also have a new master bedroom and bathroom to build. As much as we have left to do down here though, I'm totally thrilled the kitchen is done .. our family has seen a lot of enjoyment out of it already and it's a gathering place for the kids and their friends.

CB .. you are most welcome here any time with or without cookies, I think Reno should stop and pick you up along the way :)

Lyban and Monicakm .. thank you!

Gawd I've love to have breakfast in that kitchen. What is the age of your house?

    ....Jane

I want to have breakfast there, too. What time zipdee? 8:30ish? (I will bring the danish.)

KK .. 8:30ish sounds wonderful!! I'll have the coffee and tea on, table set and how about I make nice fresh fruit salad to have with the beautiful danish? :)

Jane .. Breakfast is at 8:30ish and Kelly is bring danish, yum! :)Our house was built in 1910 and one of the oldest in our neighborhood. We live in a town that produced furniture and textiles for most of it's history. Our home was built by the largest textile mill ( now defunct ) manager. At the time I guess it was considered for this area an upper middle class home .. by today's standard a cottage. :) As you go up our street towards the downtown, the homes gradually get a little more 'grand'. As I've researched, most were upper management, doctors and lawyers homes 'in the day' .. until you reach the furniture factory owner's homes which are the largest houses in the historic section of downtown.
