After renovating the kitchen in her rental my Mom and I are dreaming about renovating her kitchen, I have to admit that I do most of my cooking at her place because we live so close together and my kitchen sucks, so I have as much interest in improvement as she does.

This is the existing layout:

Currently the kitchen is functional but not very efficient, there is a lot of open and unused space and a lack of continuous counter top. The pantry is two feet deep and full of shelves so that it's holds a lot but things are hard to find.

We would love to have a better pantry, one that is only 1' deep but wide and tall, possibly against the west wall. That wall is plumbed and we have discussed the potential for a wet bar there, we would like to have a bar somewhere in the kitchen. I love the idea of either an island or peninsula that has counter on the kitchen side and a bar on the other side, but I'm not sure how to fit it into this space.

What do you think?
