Perhaps hanging a treatment all the way to the top of the ceiling, just barely covering the top of your window would look great in your room! Or you might be able to pull off some sort of wood trim between the cabinets, above the window, at the ceilking (hope that makes sense. Then the valence could come out from under that. You have a great area to work with and it will come together!

Not a fan of cornices here. A cornice in this small of a space would just look too heavy even if narrow.

I think it would look nice just to mount a valance higher than the frame. Perhaps split the differece between the top of the frame and the ceiling. Using a tension rod would help the fabric span the entire width and would add to the clean look that your white cabs have.

But, as always, JMHO!

I would hang it from the very top (close to the ceiling)

I would hang the valance just a few inches from the ceiling and it should be long enough to cover the top of the window frame as shown in your sample. Don't use a cornice board atop the valance, a few inches of blank wall space there looks best.

I thought about recco'ing a shelf and pottery... but decided that w/ the window being a bit stubby looking, just the valance will give the entire space the height the OP is looking for.

I like seeing a few inches of that lovely green above the fabric. It helps tie it in to the under cab area.
