Warm gray for kitchen

Looking for suggestions for wall color. Cabinets are natural maple, countertops are black and floor is gray/white tile. Contemporary feel! Want to warm it up!

I just put a color called Titanium from Benjamin Moore on the walls of my kitchen. It looks like a warm gray green on the chip but actually looks like it has some blue in it on the walls. It's very pretty. I ran into a decorator in the paint store who noticed I was purchasing the color and she said that she uses Titanium quite a bit when needing a warm gray color.

OLd post, I know... just put Titanium in my open concept, and it is very calming. I also put Harbour Haze blue on the other walls, and that may have been a mistake, because it shows up the subtle green in the Titanium

    Wow, this is timely.

We have been agonizing over paint color (you don't want to know how many quarts of various shades we now own) and we were looking at Titanium...we wanted a warm grey.

cathy (or anyone else that might know): We are struggling to figure out what color Titanium actuallly is because the different swatches look like different colors AND there is often only a passing similarity between the swatch and the actual paint color. (Even my BM dealer heartily agrees that the paint often comes out materially different because the swatches aren't accurate.) What color does the Titanium look like most of the time?

Also, how subtle IS the green? (It looks blue-ish to me.)

I'm sick of wasting money on all these quarts and the paint people just shrug when it doesn't even match the swatch. Grrrrrr.

Hi there! I can totally relate to having more quarts than you'd like to admit to, after unsuccessful color matching. I was literally pulling out my hair.

My suggestion is to do what I did after much frustration. Mix your own. You clearly have the paint on hand. Pick one that's been close to what you want. Add a little of this, a little of that, until you like what you see. It won't cost you any more, since you already have the quarts there. And, if you end up needing more, take the mixed paint to BM, or any paint store, and they will match it for you.

I just did that after wanting a warm Latte color, and having no success. The result, just what I wanted and not a penny out of my pocket!

That's funny that you suggest that. I've helped my sister pick a lot of colors and, inevitably we'd get to that part of the afternoon and the many many quarts and she'd say "that one's too pick, but this other one isn't warm enough." You mix and voila! we're good to go. (That said, we usually try to stick to some known ratio like 3:1 or whatever so you don't have to go through the color match business.) Four rooms later, her rooms are beautiful and spot-on. My mom calls it Frankenstein paint.

I can't use her colors. I tried on my favorite (her family room is the color of French champagne) but the light is so freakin' different...my wall with the same paint looked unnervingly like flesh. Like actual skin. My husband saw it and said ewwwwww.

The problem with our living room is that no color is even close. And we keep changing direction entirely. Like we own four quarts of various yellows/golds but decided that yellow is just too difficult to figure out. We own three grey-greens, trying to pick something that would be easier to figure out than yellow. And on it goes, moving onto the next round. (We don't own any furniture, so there is nothing driving the decision even in a general way.)

So if we already own so many many quarts, why not just buy some titanium? Tired of pissing away money. Tired of it. Tired of the damn paint not matching the damn swatch, tired of the paint people not caring that they mix up stuff that isn't the same, tired of the struggle. Tired of the gushing wound of cash going out and no paint people care or will help. I am tired of rewarding their ignorance and stoopid pricing policy by giving them still more money.

    TMI, I know.

I used BM Baltic Gray in my new kitchen. You did not mention what type of appliances you have, but I think the Baltic Gray looks great with stainless!

Pay no attention to the blue painters tape around the trim. :)
