Step By Step

I've been lurking here for a little bit, reading old posts. Pretty often the pros and experienced DIYers give a quick step-by-step recommendation of how to approach a project or particular problem.

Our project involves about 600 sq ft of our lower level, a "half-basement", if you know what I mean, 3.5 feet below grade. It includes a family room, hallway, guest bath and laundry room. Old paneling has been replaced with dry wall. Ceilings have also been switched to dry wall.

Mudding and sanding are in progress, and gc is planning to "prime the walls" later this week. Then he will be ready to paint.

This project will also include tile...with a heating element beneath. He plans to tile after painting.

That's his love...tiling, I mean. He has said several times that he is not a professional painter. I think he'd respond very positively if I encouraged him to hire a pro painter for that part.

Anyway, steps. Since the walls and ceilings have recently been dry-walled, are there any general tips for prepping to paint? What are the pros and cons of painting or tiling first? He'd like to paint first...

I'm leaning toward the BM Regal line, but somewhat concerned that a pro painter might lean toward SW. Many do in this town. I love the BM store for giving a blind customer incredible assistance in picking colors (I used to be able to see). SW store near us was much much less helpful.

Thanks for any response.
