air switch brand

Any recs on a brand of air switch? I need it in brushed nickel to coordinate with Grohe faucet. Wondering if anyone has recs, or basically if they're all the same.

I got two - the first one was a cheap mistake I found on eBay because the big-box stores were out of stock. It was cheesy quality and the switch was smaller than the standard, and too-small for the hole that was drilled. So I called every store in my area and finally found an InSinkerator brand at Ace Hardware. I found it difficult to find any, let alone in a specific finish. Folks here will probably have better sources for you.

Mountain plumbing products and newport brass are two brands home click sells--any thoughts on those?

I ordered two ISE air switches via my appliance dealer, who sold me my ISE Excel Disposals. See the link below, although they don't sell direct.

Here is a link that might be useful: ISE Air Switch link

My only experience is with our InSinkerator. I couldn't find one that came with a brushed nickel button, so I bought the unit itself and a brushed nickel button separately on ebay. The button is actually made of plastic, but we really like ours and have no complaints after 2 months.

How does the brushed nickel look next to stainless? Or is there a true stainless button available somewhere?

The ISE web site is not very enlightening. THey don't even list model numbers. But one thing I noticed is that they sell two versions - one with two outlets and one with one outlet. The one with only one outlet comes with the brushed nickel button as well as the black and chrome. But as best I can tell, none of the online places sell that one.

The brushed nickel ISE button looks great next to our stainless sink and "brilliant stainless" Delta faucet.

Most Lowes or HD sell the ISE Air Switch and some have the Switch Set (3 or 4 different colored buttons - including Brushed Stainless). My disappointment is that I can't find an Extended Flange in Brushed Nickel or Brushed Stainless.

Efaucets.com has the satin nickel button for the ISE Air Switch. You can get the switch at HD, it comes with black, white and stainless bottons.

For fun, I checked for you on irawoods.com They sell ISE (chrome only) Rohl and Brasstech. They have the Brasstech in stock and available in Stainless Steel PVD - they told me that PVD was desirable but couldn't tell me specifically why. Good luck! Peg

PS. The ISE are plasticy feeling, and I think I'm going to buy two of the Brasstech myself and if they are nicer, return my ISE's to my appliance retailer.

    Smarge,

Please come back to this thread and post your impresions of the Bratttech. By the way, what is PVD?

I don't know, but I'll bet others do!

Will let you know my impression of the Brasstech vs. the ISE. They should arrive by the 26th.

I didn't know what PVD meant, but I googled a bit and now I think I do. It stands for physical vapor deposition, and it has to do with applying thin layers of hard materials on other things.

In this case I *think* it means that a very thin layer of stainless steel has been applied to some other material (perhaps plastic) that makes up the button. (I also found reference to the PVD application of other materials *to* stainless steel, such as to make parts of a watchband be black, but I doubt that is the case here.)

IMO this is not a "good" thing. It probably means a plastic button with a thin metalic layer that will eventually wear off. It can't be as good as a button that is actually *made* of stainless steel. But I don't know if those exist.

After looking at pictures of many brands online, I suspect there are only one or two distinct products and manufacturers. I've only seen two clearly distinct units in pictures:

    - one is a box with a three prong plug coming out the back. It obviously hangs from the outlet by its prongs (like many power bricks). And it apparently has one or two outlets on the front. (Good pictures of the front seem lacking.)

    - one has a cord with a plug, so it needs to be separately mounted. (I think I saw this one with the Franke name.)

I suspect there are more manufacturers of the buttons themselves. But I keep seeing the same picture of *many* buttons in different finishes that must be from one manufacturer. This seems to be where the PVD is. I expect all the buttons are plastic with different applied finishes.

Perhaps once one has the unit itself it will be possible to buy an exhorbitantly priced pretty stainless button from some brand name sink or faucet manufacturer.

I just picked up an ISE air switch with stainless button at HD today. It cost about $56. The stainless button looks fine to me. This seems to be a better price than the online prices I was finding.

Having seen whats out there I was not too worried buying from HD. But I know HD often has cheapened versions of things, so it is possible that this is not as good in some way. Will just have to wait and see how it goes.

The Brasstech arrived today. I compared them to the ISE brand. The Brasstech I ordered was in Stainless Steel finish and it looks a zillion times better to me than the chrome finish of the ISE. (BTW, the ISE came with a chrome button AND a white button in the same box). I'm going to let my GC check the other parts out to see if he sees a benefit to using one over the other. If no diff, I'll return the ISE and keep the brasstech b/c of the finish.

I perceive that the Brasstech button works better, but I think it is a prejudice. They look exactly the same; as if made by the same manufacturer. Possibly Brasstech put their own finsh on the button to make is seem more substantial and less plasticy, but I doubt it. If I had gotten the "brushed nickel" finish of ISE that I ordered instead of the chrome I bet there'd be zero difference except that the Brasstech cost a heck of a lot more!

i just bought the ISE switch at Lowes. It comes with a white and looks like a brushed nickel or polished crome. At any rate, I put the polished crome one next to my Ticor 550 sink and Delta Allora faucet and it matches pretty good. So no need for me to buy the extra stainless steel button

For anyone who hasn't bought theirs yet, HD online sells other (color) finishes of ISE buttons in Satin Nickel for $19.99 (also comes in black which may go well (possibly) with my absolute black granite.
