C 2 Paint

Hi Faron and other list members,

With the help of the very nice man at the store, I have chosen a C 2 color for our kitchen. It is Sea Water.
I am wondering which sheen would be best for the kitchen walls. I do the painting here. The place that sells the paint is a bit upscale and used to people who have designers and professional painters.

Would Faron or anyone here who has used C 2 have an opinion as to whether one sheen is more difficult to apply than another?

All advice welcomed and than you.

I must add that one wall of the kitchen extends into another room. That may have a bearing on the sheen to be selected.

    The trim is stained wood.

    Thanks again

I also noticed when I was looking at C2 online that there is an additional line called their "studio line". Anyone know what is up with that?

I will ask the store that sells the paint when I get back there.
Maybe I should go get a sample of the paint. Faron has mentioned that the samples are made up in eggshell. If I use the sample it will give me an idea of how the paint works in application.

    Hi Michelle222!

    Sheen:
Since the wall goes into a dining area, I slightly lean towards the lower-sheen Eggshell. If it's isolated to kitchen only, I'd prefer Satin...ESPECIALLY if your back-splashes are 2b painted. If sink/stove walls are tiled, then Eggshell is definitely fine.

    Color name:
I can't pull up "Sea Water", but "Sea Salt" #C404, is kind of a warm taupe/gray.

    Product:
    * My 1st choice is the C2 Lovo (the top-notch line).
    * C2 LUXE is the newest/best offering, released this spring.
    * C2 Studio (was called Basic) is the lower-priced VINYL-Acrylic series. Not as good a resin as Lovo/LUXE, but in the vinyl-acrylic class of paints, it's a good one.

    Bottom-line...
Once you start using Lovo/LUXE, you'll never go back!

Yes, the pint-samples are Interior Lovo Eggshell.

Have you checked-out the new Barry Dixon colors for C2?!

Thank you Faron, I made a mistake with the paint's name. The man who helped me kept calling it Sea Salt but in fact it is Salt Water.

Are the Lovo/Luxe lines difficult to work with for an amateur? Is one more forgiving in than the other in terms of being fast drying and difficult to spread quickly enough?

Are the Studio paints slower to dry?

The Lovo/Luxe paints are fairly fast drying, but just use a steady pace! I have time to even use the "top-down"/light lay-off strokes.

Not much diff. between Studio-Lovo dry-times.

    Use good roller-covers!

Yes, Faron, I have written done all of your past directions for choice of rollers and roller covers.

I think you said to use the 3/8 covers?

Also, we have had to patch a few places where the electrician changed the wiring around. We have veneer plaster and have used the Durobond 90 to patch it.
Which of the C2 primers would you recommend for these spots?

    Any good primer will do.
My 1st choice though is the C2-One primer.
Roll-out & feather-edge 2 coats of primer over the patches.

For slightly better final sanding, use the SAP if the walls are smooth veneer.

The paint went on beautifully! We bought the Luxe and it was on sale for $17 off the usual price of $62.

I am happy with the color. It shifts depending on the light to a bit more green or a bit more blue. I am also happy with the eggshell for the kitchen.

I am wondering how the application of the C2 compares to the application of the interior Aura. Would you say that they are similar or would you say the Aura dries faster while you are putting it on? I feel that the C2 gave me a reasonable amount of time to work without worrying.

I was telling the local (MA) dealer about Faron in Fargo and what a help he is to all of us.

Also may I ask whether the C2 paints can be mixed in BM colors if there is a shade that is desired? Could they do it using the C2 system?

Sure...C2 can be mixed into BM (or anything for that matter...)!

(...it just depends on how fussy you are on the match-quality...;-))

    >>> Why did I say that?

C2 is transitioning into a new Colorant line---
    * Now it's all Low/No-VOC Acrylic, High-strength stuff!!
    * Translation: Less total formula, more vivid colors, better opacity in most colors, etc.
    * New tinters required too! The dispensing-nozzle cap area has to be sealed & humidified so the new colorants don't dry out!
    * All color formula's have been redone with this new system too. There's some new colorants I guarantee aren't out there...anywhere.
    * Aaaannnd my MAIN point...some colors now have as many as...TEN colorants now. This translates to >>> "Good luck matching most of these colors"! Ain't gonna happen...ESPECIALLY into a paint-line that uses only 10-12 colorants.

    Thanks for the info, Faron.

I had also asked whether you have found Aura to be faster drying and so more difficult to work with than the C2. I found the C2 to have a reasonable time frame in which to accomplish the application.

I have not used Aura interior paint. I painted the outside of a door using the exterior Aura and while it dried fast I was able to get by using it. I hear that interior Aura can be difficult.

    OOps!

Sorry to say...I haven't used Aura!

Some painters here have tho', so I hope they chime in!

I am having a terrible time with Aura interior drying too fast. It affects the look and texture when it gets worked too much. Unfortunately, there is very little time to work. None as far as I'm concerned. So it doesn't take much to throw you over the line. I am still trying to love it but reality is I hate it. We will probably be parting ways. The sooner the better and I might get these rooms painted. I can't compare with C2 though. Wish I could check that one out around here.
