Whitewashed/Limed kitchen cabinets

I am thinking about putting in whitewashed or limed kitchen cabinets; but I NEVER see any in photos on line. I thought they would be nice because they are light and bright, but they show the wood grain. Why doesn't anyone use them? Is there a problem maintaining the finish? Do they look too busy? Can anyone direct me to photos of them?
