Green Frog Tape

I know it's probably been discussed before, but I just want to shout it from the rooftops (yes, it's that exciting)!

The Green Frog Tape Is Awesome!!!!

I have always used the bluetape to tape off the ceiling and trim when painting. I always seemed to have to go back somewhere and touch up where it bled through. I decided to buy into the advertising, and try the green tape. I went to Lowe's to get it. There it sat, all by itself, it only came in one size. It was sitting off in the corner while the popular blue tape was everywhere, in different widths, variety packs, etc.

So I brought my frog tape home. I used it along the ceiling, along the woodwork, on the edge of the wall so the paint wouldn't go around the corner......It was so fantastic. I pulled that tape off and I have the best, crisp, no-bleed-through lines you can imagine.

I bought the 3 pack at Costco yesterday. Momma is gonna be painting!

Did I share with you my Wasabi Green Wall I did? Not sure, I know I posted it elsewhere. (I'm waiting to get the 2nd print for that wall repaired. The moving gorillas broke it)

I boughts some too for stripes in my sons' room. I haven't used it yet but your post makes me feel a lot better about buying in to the hype!

Beautiful Wasabi by the way! It is a lovely room.

Have friend whose husband used it to tape for stripes in their daughter's room couple of years ago before baby was born...light lavender and a darker shade...came out great...so another + for green Frog tape...

Another tip-- I used the roll itself to press the edge down after applying it, just to make sure it was down completely. (I used to take my thumb's nail and do that with the blue tape, but it obviously never worked as good)

And stripes are on my mind....

Thanks, Bee! Makes me (almost) want to go paint something just to try it out. Love your Wasabi Green room too!

I've been using Green Frog Tape all weekend, too . . . and I love it! I'm prepping our powder room and loooong bedroom hallway for painting. All in all, 8 doorways and 13 vigas (wood ceiling beams), a skylight and all those baseboards and ceiling edging I had to tape around! This GFT (also bought mine at Costco in a 3-pack) has worked great! I really, really hate to paint but I'm very glad not to be using the old blue stuff this time. BTW, after using my finger for way to long to press down the tape, I discovered that a small, thick terrycloth rag is much easier on my hand.

I love your room -- color and everything about it.

Wish I knew about the tape when we did our painting. I hired someone to do our stairs, and unfortunately, he didn't have the greatest attention to detail. I'm willing to bet that if he used this tape, the outcome would have been much cleaner.

I will definitely use it for my next painting project!

    Thanks for the review!

On another note, may I ask about the silver lamp?

It looks like it might be kind of short - ?

I'm looking for a short floor lamp - a simple one. I find them when I google "adjustable", and, sometimes, "library lamp".

"Adjustable" brings up the ones with bridge, or swing, arms, and I don't want that. Nor do I want a pharmacy lamp or a tray lamp.

I have found a few, but I wonder if you have a source or search term for others? I was hoping for about 50" tall. And of course I always want a bargain.

There is one at Ikea that I have to go look at. The others I've seen start at above $300. They are pretty nice. But something in between would probably suit me better.

jamies--oh, I see what you are looking at....

it's actually an aluminum end table with a table lamp on it. The top of the console table is distorting it and making it look like a floor lamp.

    better picture?

    Nice color!

BTW, there is also a yellow Frog Tape as well--a more delicate version for more "freshly" painted and delicate surfaces. Works well at preventing bleed-through. I think DH likes it better than the delicate surface blue tape.

I do our painting, but s**k at taping--I'll come help you paint if you come tape off my ceilings for me! LOL

Oh! Thank you, Bee. And to think I actually *have* been working on my "seeing" skills.

Or maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see.

    I appreciate the help.

Would this tape work on heavily textured walls? The blue doesn't do a very good job. LOVE your room and the colors are gorgeous.

Bee, it's a beautiful room. The color is gorgeous, and works brilliantly with your crisp white, the polished aluminum, the gray wall, the wood tones, and your disciplined editing.

    Brava - !

momrox, I don't know about the textured walls. Can't hurt to try it. I have no idea why this tape is so much better.

Thanks bronwynsmom! You have a way with words.

cat_mom-- oh, wow. really? yellow too? hmmm, no way the Lowe's here has that. Not enough room on the shelves with all the blue tape there. I love taping now. I'll be over.

I have used Frog Tape on textured walls and got a clean crisp line. You do need to follow their instructions for use on textured walls.

Thanks for the great advice! I've never heard of green frog tape before, but I'm definitely going to check it out. I usually use blue painters tape and often have some bleed through.

The painter ran out of blue tape while working on my job. I pulled out the Frog tape; he looked at it with a smirk. I took it as he thought I didn't know what I was doing. He later commented how good it was.

Don't think HD carries it, just the green, but The Sherwin Williams store carries it as does the paint store we use for paint, roller covers, etc.

You just let me know when you're available! LOL

cat_mom--as soon as I'm done taping off the coffered ceiling in my living room...

Be careful. We used it on painted walls that were newly painted 3-4 months so we could paint the door trim. Ouch. We pulled it off just a few hours after painting the trim, it pulled off chunks of our good SW Kilim Beige cashmere paint. I was so disgusted. Had to go back and paint the wall very carefully with a trim brush. It actually made more work for us and looks rough in places. Not sure what went wrong, we are pretty experienced painters.

wow prairemom, I was afraid of that happening to me too. I have had the issue of the tape pulling off the new paint when I peel it back and need to go back and touch up. I had no issues at all this time. I wonder what went wrong with your case.

I was just looking on Amazon to see any reviews on it, as it sounded great here, and the first type I clicked on had double the 1 star reviews (30) than it did 5 star (15). That one was listed as 'Frog Tape 82011 Pro Painters Masking Tape, 1-Inch by 60-Yards, Green'.

This one got thirty four 1 star reviews and 14 five star. 'Frog Tape 82021 Pro Painters Masking Tape, 1-1/2-Inch by 60-Yards, Green'
There were others on Amazon, and the one called 'Frog Tape 1358463 Multi-Surface Painting Tape, Green, 0.94-Inch Wide by 60 Yards Long' got eleven 5 star reviews and eight 1 star.

While not great, the multi-surface version gets better reviews than the 'Pro' version. People seem to love it or hate it.

Ours is the Pro Multi-surface, 82011. I kept it though I will never use it on a painted surface again! I got it from either SW or HD. Makes me wonder if it was exposed to heat in storage before I got it. It was summer, so entirely possible. Maybe that made it too tacky? I keep it in our house, so it had to have happened before I bought it if that is indeed the problem.
We switched over to blue tape when we realized what was happening, no more problems.

Another lover of frog tape! Will never go back to blue tape.

I've been painting and painting the last few weeks (foyer, stairwell, upstairs hall, hall bathroom, guest room).

In the bathroom, a week after I painted the walls, I taped to paint the window trim. I was worried about the wall paint coming off when removing the tape as I've had this happen many times with blue tape. I always remove the tape as soon as the last coat of paint is done. It came off beautifully! Absolutely no paint pulled off wall. I was very relieved!

I will be painting the window trim in the guest room soon that was painted this past weekend. Hoping for the same results.

Bee - your house is beautiful!! Never tire of seeing pictures!

I've used the Green Frog tape consistently for the last few years, and have loved it. Much better results than any other painter's tape I've used.

I had to repaint a half-bath a month ago, and decided to try Young House Love's method -using a specific brush that they love, without any tape. Wow -I had the room done in record time, and my edges have never been so clean and straight. So after that, I went back and touched up my son's room and my craft room, both of which I had painted in the last year. I was never 100% satisfied with the ''ceiling meets the wall' edge. Mostly because we have textured ceilings, which makes getting the tape to lay completely ice-straight is a real challenge (especially when you are teetering on a ladder). So I went back and did that line, in both rooms, using the brush recommended by YoungHouseLove, without any tape. And I'm astounded and thrilled at the ease and results. So thought I would pass this on.... Oh -and, you'd think this brush would cost a mint, right, but it was between $5-$6.

    Thanks for that info bestyears.

I saw one those small brushes at Home Depot and the paint store recently. I was wondering if they make a difference. I tend to fall for the spend money on this and your painting will be so much easier gimmicks only to find out I wasted my money! The one time I don't fall for it, it turns out it would really help. Go figure.

Maybe I'll go get it before doing the window trim in the recently painted guest room...

I don't use paint around trim, etc. - I rely on my brush, but the frog tape gave me an awesome clean line where I changed color on my rounded corner walls.

Bestyears, what is it about that brush that is superior to a regular angle brush? Is there a special technique that you use?

I completely agree, bestyears (and YoungHouseLove). That's the style brush (but I different brand...) I use for all my close work and I love it.

We just installed a box beam ceiling in our kitchen and I painted all the interior ceiling squares blue against the white trim and cream walls. No painter's tape. And I had to cut in around all the recessed cans, etc.

You know, I don't honestly know what it is about this brush specifically. Certainly part of it is the ergonomics of a short brush, and the level of control it gives you. But I have another short brush (Wooster I think), which had been a favorite until I tried this one. The Wooster brush was the best I had used till that point, but I never achieved the perfect ice-straight cutting in that I seem to get effortlessly with the YoungHouseLove brush. This one seems to hold the paint extremely well without splaying -if that is at all clear. In other words, the paint goes EXACTLY where you put the brush -it doesn't fan out or give you little stray swipes. It's just a dream to work with. Oh, and I got it at Sherwin Williams. I would recommend watching her video too (in my link). She does a great job of showing her technique -for example, always staying level with the brush -I think that's key.

FYI, Sherwin Williams is having a 35% off everything that fits in "the bucket" sale. I picked up a few rolls of yellow Frog Tape, plastic drop cloths, sanding pads, etc. but forgot about that brush, so I will have to run back before the weather becomes bad around here. Sale runs through tomorrow.
