Calling persnicketydesign!!

Hi, this is your neighbor from SC. Could you tell me about your Bamboo shades in the bedroom that you just made the panels and dust ruffle for. I am trying to pick some shades of that type for my MBR, but the ones from HD and Lowe's look thin and I am afraid you will be able to see through them.

Also, I would love to see pictures of your son's rooms. I am trying to re-decorate my 8 yr old DS's and am stumped. I have bought several things, but do not like any of it as well as the pottery barn dinosaurs with demin comforter and plaid dust ruffle and window treatments I had made when he was younger. I love your style and thought I might get an idea from you. By the way, we are huge Clemson fans, but I really don't want that kind of theme room.

Thank you so very much!!! The shades that are in the BR actually did come from HD and they are pretty thin. We use them to filter light rather than block it out. We live on acreage though so privacy isn't an issue. The only things that peek in our windows are the neighbor's horses and the occasional deer. :o)

I'll take some pics of the boys' rooms for you this afternoon. I let them decorate their own rooms this time since they're out of the theme room stage (11, 12, 14). They got to pick their linens, lamps, and stuff for the walls. They did pretty well considering it was their first time. :o) Now I just need to get busy and sew their window treatments!

I appreciate your response. We also have privacy as we live in the woods on 9 acres. My husband gets on to me for running around half dressed often and I respond that there shouldn't be anyone out there looking in. I may go to HD and look again.

Thanks for taking pictures for me. My DS wanted a Clemson room, but I am not real big on sports themed rooms. I bought a Tommy Hilfiger plaid quilt with orange in it and am trying to mix it up with his stuff, but I am really not that crazy about it.

By the way, I searched and found your building blog. I love your new home. It is gorgeous. We did the same thing, but have been here over 10 yrs now and things really need updating(IMHO). My DH doesn't think so!!!

Thank you so much, Julie! We thoroughly enjoyed building our house and will definitely be doing again. :o)

DS #2 had a GA Bulldogs room at the last house. Boys & football. :o) We did a black bedskirt, red quilt, a red & black slipcover for his chair, and a fun UGA print for the WTs and pillows. Of course he had to have Uga the bulldog on everything. I even found Uga patches for his lampshades. I know it sounds horrible, but it actually was pretty cute.

I never realized how pitiful the kids' rooms looked until I took these pics! There's still a lot to do, but so far they have done everything themselves...including placing their furniture. :o) This is the 14 yo's room. The ceilings in his room are 11', so I put his bed on 4" risers. His quilt actually has alot of the green that matches the walls, but it's not showing up in the pic for some odd reason. He wants burlap for his window treatments and bedskirt. I'm just waiting for it to go on sale.

And this is his bathroom. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

This is the 12 yo's room. He has some adorable mirrors that he picked out to hang beside the "Watchful Dog" print above the bed. I'm waiting to hang those until I get his WTs done so I can space them correctly. He's our little artist and I've been looking for an old drafting table for him to use along the long wall. I've got a 4-pane transom that I'll hang above for him to display his artwork in. :o)

This is the fabric that he chose for his window treatments. I found a rug that matches it PERFECTLY!!! In fact, I'm going to run upstairs and bring it down now. I had forgotten about it until I got out his fabric!

The 11 & 12 year olds share this bath.

And this our the 11 yo's room. He's an adrenaline junkie. Every mama's scariest nightmare. LOL

He has a little desk in his room for doing his homework. He likes it quiet while he studies. :o)

And this is the fabric he chose for his WTs.

Hey persnickty, can I ask about that blue paint color you used? It looks great! Actually, the green too- they're both such clear, happy colors!

Sure! The blue is SW Tradewind and the green is SW Hearts of Palm.

Thanks for sharing. I followed your build on the building forum. It's fun to see your less public spaces. Those boys' rooms look so nice. I can only hope mine keep them up as well once we move. :) I love their beds, especially your 12 yo. I've had a tough time finding kids beds that I like. Have you had them forever, or are they recent purchases? Thanks.

Thanks! One of my big pet peeves about the old house was the size of the kids' rooms. They were massive! FAR too big for little fellas to keep organized. We made their rooms 12 1/2' X 14 and it's so much easier for them to keep clean...and me too!

We've had the beds forever. The one that's in the 12 yo's room was my DH's when he was growing up. Although they aren't shown in that photo, we also have the matching dresser & chest. It's been a good set. :o)

I love the boys rooms. They are so neat and clean. My 8 yr old DS actually keeps his room cleaner than my 13 yr old DD. She is a mess! Thanks for posting. I also love the calmness of the rooms. I love the ideas about UGA(black and red), but I don't think I can take that much orange and purple. Maybe I can blend in some orange, so he can still have his favorite stuff there. Thanks again! I am so addicted to this forum.

Your son's did such a good job picking out their own stuff. I let my girls to that and they do to. I think it is because kids don't stress about making a mistake. They seem to get it right the first time.

I love the green room. It looks so nice with the blue comforter with the touch of green.

I love all those rooms, persnickety! You obviously handed down your decorating talent to your boys, as well!

Thank you so much! I had the boys read what everyone wrote about their rooms and were all grinning from ear to ear. :o)

I have a question! When somenoe says they went to your building page, what do they mean? How do I view it? I don't even know how to access my own page! ha

Fancy...it was probably one of the threads over on the "Building A Home" board. I tried to post throughout our build. :o)
