Transition wall color

Thinking of taking the wall down between the kitchen and dining room. We would extend the wood floor from the kitchen into the dining room (Part of an L-Shaped LR/DR). I'm concerned with the transition from the kitchen to the DR wall. I don't want to repaint my wood trim in the kitchen to match the white trim in the DR and I prefer not to have to paint them the same color. I am considering a narrow shelving unit that would go from floor to ceiling. I could mix the two colors - white frame and wood shelves.

My DH is not crazy about the idea. Any suggestions?

Would be better if we could see a picture, but I think the trim probably should all be the same -- white. Welcome to "open concept". Doing the floor the same is great, but I think you need to continue the connection on walls/trim too unless there is a real division in the rooms. could you leave a 12" separator piece of wall as a divider? It would still be open, but the rooms would have a defined beginning and end point, at least on one side.
