Narrow Dining Table Rec's

Good morning! Hope everyone is enjoying beautiful spring-like weather.

I am planning a long (8') and narrow (2') dining table for our future breakfast nook. Dining table height to be used with chairs.

We are a family of 4 and are short. The regular dining table will be on the other side of the room. I figure that we can use the nook table comfortable as a family (it will be in an optimal spot to sit at and chat while someone is working in the kitch) and as overflow for dining when we have parties.

My concern is the legroom. But I am not so concerned. Just a little. Basically, I want someone to say that it will be okay for occassional use by tall people.

Anyone?

It sounds great, especially since it will work so well for you on a daily basis. For the occasional tall person, you may have to just make sure there's no one across from them to give them more legroom (or put them at the regular table). I'm sure you can make it work!

If you aren't going to eat there regularly it should work. Narrow tables are great but they don't leave a lot of room for serving dishes and extra plates and glasses. Two 10 inch dinner plates take up most of the space. I have a 34" table that I had custom made. The guy taking the order convinced me to go from 30 to 34 inches. I am so glad I did. DH is 6'5" and he is comfortable at our table. He wouldn't want to sit at a 24" table across from someone on a regular basis. His upper legs are too long for that.

We are going with a narrow, 24" wide t4ble. We don't have it yet, but for my husband and I (he's 6' 2" and I'm 5'8"), it will be great. We actually measured the tables at our favorite restaurants! Most 2-person restaurant tables are just 24", and we've never knocked knees and he doesn't *usually* kick my shins.

24" is definitely more intimate, without room for serving dishes. Our island will be just 4' away, and I usually dish up our plates from the stove anyway.

I'm having a 5 foot long and 24 inch wide table built for our small breakfast nook. It can't be any wider or it will interfere with the path from the door outside to the kitchen.
I plan on using it for people to sit on one side and talk to me while I cook or a place where my husband can bring in one or two cowboys for a cup of coffee. Tall people can sit on the ends. But since it will mostly be for two people to four, it will be great. We are having steel legs bent. Then putting a hardwood irregular top on it. Kind of like Urban Hardwoods table.

Thanks for the supportive replies...just what i was fishing for!

I T Hollow, our island will also be a long arms stretch away!

Montana, i was thinking of using brushed aluminum table legs, a wood frame and a marble top. Still looking for one or two cowboys :)
