Berta is coming!

Ok, I know this is slightly off topic...but I'm too excited and nobody around me shares my crazy TKO giddiness!

My Berta is on her way to my house today. Yippee!

I found her on Craigslist and bought her sight unseen from an appliance store that was selling her because of her damaged box.

I'm a nervous wreck that something might be wrong - but so excited that she'll finally be here so that I'll know for sure.

Thanks for letting me share - my kids don't seem to give a monkey's butt about it! LOL

Hooray! My new range arrives tomorrow, I'm SO. EXCITED. So I totally get it. Good Luck!

Congrats to both of you! I'm just about to order my appliances and am super excited, so you're probably mile high right now since your babies are on their way!!!! Hope the craigslist purchase is a gem!

Woo Hoo! Made our decision on that sleek Italian baby too...can't wait to see how you like her. Pix of course!

Fingers crossed for you that all is well with Berta. You will love her for many years to come. (-:

    Pics asap, I hope.

What color is she? I adore those Italian ranges, but was SO afraid I would
have no one to service it here, that I went with something more mainstream.

    Happy Cooking!

Ayerg73 - Congratulations! My Berta arrived last week....it was love at first sight! My kids didn't give a monkey's butt either...but I share your joy with you! Enjoy - you will love her!

Ayerg73, which Berta did you get, the Master or the Pro? I looked at both of them the day I bought my Capital Precision, and they were drool inducing....

mabeldingeldine - YAY! So exciting! Enjoy your Capital. I almost ordered one of those until I found my Berta.

We got a Pro. She's 48" and dual fuel (two things I was really wanting but figured it was out of the budget until I found this one.)

fouramblues - that's awesome. It's such a relief once you get orders placed and you know that you're not going to think about that anymore!

MaggieQ - Awesome! Which Berta are you getting? They are beautiful, aren't they? ~swoon~

shanghaimom - Thanks! Yes, I will send some pics. Sadly, she'll have to live in the garage for several weeks, but I still can visit her often!

springroz - She's black. I wanted cream, but when I found this one, I jumped at the chance. I think it ended up being a better fit for my kitchen anyhow.

I know how you feel about finding people to work on it. My contractor wasn't excited at the prospect of installing it by any means. I was happy to find out there's a company that works on them an hour away, so that's doable, at least.

gardenamy - YAY! Which one did you buy?

Having the Berta is a treat for me because we were stationed in Germany for several years and my boys played baseball every year just a few miles from where the Bertas are made. Makes me feel like we're capturing some of that time - some of my favorite memories with my boys - right in the kitchen!

    Couldn't resist...

Here's a pic of an American Army team playing a German local team (my kids were actually on the German team) in Sala Baganza, Italy.

    SO beautiful...

You should have SEEN the food these kids were served while they camped there to play. Amazing stuff! And the Flying Pig mascot walking around representing Parma ham - SO funny!

I saw a 36" Pro on Saturday, it was drop dead gorgeous. If my range hadn't been 60% off.... I'd have gotten a second job to buy the Berta! Enjoy and POST PHOTOS!!!!

She's already here and she's perfect! Well, almost perfect. The toekick was damaged in shipping and he's replacing it for free!

I have no idea why he gave us such a deal for just having the box damaged, but I am certainly not complaining. Nice guy - mom and pop business and he even drove several hours to deliver it personally. We tipped him, especially since gas prices are much higher then when he quoted us the price for delivery and he tried to refuse the tip.

Sweet guy. Reminded me of my dad. Glad we bought from him for lots of reasons!

We've got her wrapped up, so no pics yet. I'll get some on here soon!

Thanks for sharing the fun day with me! :)

Ayerg73 - glad she arrived safe and is perfect! How nice that he is replacing the toekick! I have a 36" Master 5 burner and so far it has been great!

Sigh... can't wait to see her! Sounds like a great transaction overall.

Ayerg73, congratulations! It's great to see your excitement right here on the thread, it's tangibile, so you must be very happy! Enjoy your Berta soon!
I have to say, that as an American (of italian origin) who lived in Italy for many years, I am proud! We are getting a Bertazzoni 6 burner cooktop in our new kitchen...yeah, I know....should have...but really wanted a streamlined look. When we retire to Italy for 6 months per year, we'll get a beautiful Berta! Enjoy and can't wait to see it!!!
    Auguri!

This must be the week for Berta's. Ours arrived 2 days ago.

Our kitchen is clearly a work in progress... But I made dinner on her last night.

Thanks guys! It was a great transaction. Something that could have gone very bad. I was worried I had been too trusting. Glad to see there are still trustworthy people out there!

I will get a picture of her sometime this weekend. I keep gravitating towards her box every time I walk through the garage. I've fussed over the grates sitting on top many times. It's almost a sickness, I think! LOL

clarygrace - I can't tell you how jealous I am! 6 months a year in Italy? We have been stationed in Germany for a total of almost 7 years and I miss Europe so very much. I can't wait to be able to go back and visit again. It's so beautiful, and the people are just wonderful.

ucgal - beautiful Berta! I bet it was a treat to cook on it. Did you make something Italian? ;)

    ayerg73-
first meal was thin crust salmon pizza - to see if the convection would improve the crust over our electric wall oven. (It did. Crispier crust.)

2nd meal was less Italian... chicken rice soup from leftover roast chicken we'd made earlier (when we just had an oven, no stove, earlier in the week.) Boil was quick, simmer was easy to control.

My husband's family is Sicilian and my in-laws live adjacent to us... this stove will get a lot of Italian cooking. :)
