Fill this blank wall -help (pics)

My daughter and I finally finished painting two pictures to go next to the bed in the guest room. We were going for a spa/tranquil theme with cherry blossom branches. These are oil paintings so they took awhile to dry. She has painted before but this was my first attempt.

Anyway, I think I need something above the bed - maybe a starburst clock or something. It looks to blank to me.

I am still looking for tassels to hang from the lamps to pick up some more color. I am also putting fresh flowers in the vase when I have company staying there (I have fake ones in there now).

Suggestions for that wall or just leave it alone??

I think it would look better if you hung the pictures together, centered over the bed. If you try to put something inbetween the two pictures as they are now I'm afraid it's going to get a cluttered look. I have two large oil paintings hung together centered over my bed.

    Love the artwork!

I would hang the two paintings above the bed - and I would put a thin dark frame around them so that they don't meld into the wall color behind them. Or, mount them on wood pieces that are just a couple of inches larger than the canvases all around, painted in the dark black/brown.

I would get a couple of the inexpensive mirrors that are meant to hang behind the door, framed in the darker color, and mount them behind the nightstand/lamp on each side. Maybe hung about has high as the artwork is now.

If you do decide to keep the art where it is, I think you need to hang it lower - it feels like it is being balanced on the edges of the lampshades right now. Pull the lamps closer to the bed on each side (so that they sit on the inside half of the night stand, about where the handles are as center) and then hang the artwork to the middle-outside of the wall above the nightstand on each side.

Definitely center the beautiful paintings (great work) over the bed.

Lovely artworks -- and gorgeous room!!

How about leaving the artworks in place BUT consider adding a long rectanglar decorative pillow to the middle of the bedpillows .... something that would draw the eye back to the middle of the bed ......

I love that wall color with the white bedding, and the drapes are perfect. I agree with those who say to pull those pretty paintings together centered over the bed. I think I like them unframed and somewhat blending into the wall; it's a soft look.

I have a feeling this is the look you were going for:

HPJ185's room on Rate My Space

Since your pictures (which are beautiful BTW) are smaller than the ones she used, I think they would look better over the bed.

    They are beautiful! Great job!

    What Les said.

Look at the inspiration pic of msrose. The lamps should never me centered with your art.

Thanks for the compliments about the pictures. We originally did them with the idea of the blue at the bottom and the branches coming down from the top but after we finished DD liked them better the other way. LOL

We thought about putting them over the bed first but it seemed like they were too big and really needed a 3rd picture to balance them. Msrose you are right, HPJ's pic was my inspiration but her pictures are very large.

I like the idea of moving the lamps closer to the bed and then I could drop the pictures a bit.
I am still looking for a pillow to put on the bed to break up the white. The blanket is RH diamond matellasse in silver sage but I think it is too light. I should have bought the eucalyptus which was a tad darker.

I will play with the lamps first and see how that looks. Does anyone know where I can get tassels for the lamps? BB&B has them but not in the right colors.

    Thanks for all your suggestions.

Your paintings are beautiful. Great job on your first attempt! I have to agree with the other posters about hanging the pictures over the bed. I also like Les917's suggestion about hanging mirrors behind the lamp. Here's a picture, although I thing what she is suggesting is a much taller mirror than in these pictures.

You've got to be kidding....that's your first attempt at painting? I hope you take it up full time now, seems you have the knack! The room looks lovely.

A metal sculpture or a mirror above the bed may fill in that space.

definitely center the pics above the bed- great work!

I'm soooooo impressed with your original art! Ditto centering over the bed.

Hoyamom, just saw this clock on sale at JCP and thought it might be great in the bedroom:

Are the two canvases the same size? The right one looks smaller. If they are different sizes leave them where they are. And get a clock, mirror, or metal sculpture for the center.

Those paintings are gorgeous! They really fit the room. The cherry blossom theme with the ginger jar lamps are perfect.

Can you make a third one? It think they would really look nice having three of them in a tight row on the wall on the other side of the room. Even the two of them put together on the other wall will have great impact.

Art that you create yourself is so much better than purchased art. I brings a joy to the heart to view.

Since they are unframed and similar to the wall color hanging them together in a row on the larger wall makes a bigger statement than having them separate and hiding behind the lamps.

"Anyway, I think I need something above the bed - maybe a starburst clock or something."

No electronics over the head of the bed. Bad Feng Shui. It would be hard to view in that location too and you already have a bedside clock. Maybe a convex mirror like shown in your inspiration pic, but one more lightweight in feel. This one would mimic the brown branches and blossoms in the paintings balancing out both sides of the room.

I was going to say what teacats said, finding a flanged rectangular sham with some of the blue color, to lay in front of the 2 pillows. I would hang nothing above the bed then. Blank space is often a good thing.

I am sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you all about your wonderful suggestions. DD is home from college and she is back into the room so I haven't been able to try your suggestions. I did go in and move the lamps over like Les suggested and they do make the pictures look better.
The pictures are the same size, maybe they look different bc one has more paint on it than the other or maybe it's the angle I took the picture.

Dilly we can't make another picture bc we got rid of the paint we mixed up. I had my DD hold one of them over the bed but I think they look TOO big over the bed. The bed is huge as it is. The mirror looks nice but I already have a mirror on the opposite wall. I certainly don't want to have bad Feng Shui.

I am still looking for a pillow and tassels for the lamp!

Thanks again for all of your suggestions!

I am still looking for a pillow and tassels for the lamp!

What happened to your original thread?? I can't find it anymore. I suggested the tassels for the clear lamps and had links in it for places to purchase.

Walmart sold thick tassels, but a lot of the Walmarts have now closed their fabric departments all over. It's one place to check if they still have the fabric departments in your area.

Dilly I do remember you suggesting the tassels so I have had that in the back of my mind when I go shopping. I don't remember you putting links in though. I will check our local Walmart.

Oceanna - thanks for posting all those pictures - some of those rooms are lucious!!!
