Laundry room....still.

Well I am back again and still in paint turmoil. After buying at least half a dozen paint samples and new lighting, I am still at a loss. I still love my red cabinets.

I've tried blues, yellows, tans and none of them worked. The white/creams looked dirty especially in the previous lighting. I gave in and started looking at grays as per DH's suggestion. I thought I figured it out and bought a gallon only for it to be way more blue than gray. Here's a picture.

Keep in mind this is a 6x8 laundry room with 2 doors and no natural light. So it's really hard to get a decent picture.

The color isn't horrible (Behr Light French Gray) but isn't what I had pictured. Is there a gray that doesn't look blue, green or purple? Should I lean more towards a "greige" since the rest of my house is more of the browns/beiges? DH asked for no more brown which means tan, beige, brown, taupe. I figure if it has some gray in it then maybe he'll let it slide by.

I'd prefer a SW color as my Lowe's and SW are not the best at matching other brands and my SW store doesn't like to alter formulas. I've asked to have something mixed at 50% and they say its just one of the colors already on the color strip.

Here's a picture of my kitchen that leads into the laundry room for a better idea of the colors of adjoining space. The color is SW Portabello

I'd love for some guidance.

Oh and here are a few of the colors I've sampled.

SW Aquarium

SW Tame Teal

SW Morning Sun

SW Sea Salt

SW Rock Candy

SW Argos

SW TinSmith

SW Nantucket Dune

SW Sands of Time

SW Samovar Silver

SW Practical Beige

In my defense I didn't buy all of these for this room. Some were samples from previous projects. That helps right???

I vote for a white/white. Anything else seems to compete with or clash with the red. I'm sure others will have different thoughts, but that is mine!

I was also going to suggest a bright white. You can then use the most colorful accessories you can find to go with your rug. (Do I remember correctly? Didn't you have a colorful rug you wanted to use?)

My concern with bright white is my trim is SW Dover White and it's a creamy off white. I'm not sure I want to change the trim color in just that room.

When I had the walls primed white it did feel bigger and brighter but made my trim and doors look nasty yellow white.

I do indeed have a super fun colored rug for additional accent colors. And hope to come up with some are that ties it all together.

    Are you wanting color?

How about a nice green, like BM fern wood green.

Here are a couple of pics with red and green together. This one looks similar to fernwood:

I ave BM dill pickle in my laundry room with red accents. This is similar to dill pickle.

This is hgtv dream house Laundry room with red and gray. It's a bit darker. Probably a green undertone will read the most neutral. Try Chelsea gray.

What would happen if you painted the walls the same color as the trim... Not sure what color your appliances are through. If they were white, it might do the same thing the primer did to the trim.

I would do bright white and redo the trim in that room in the same color in semi-gloss. If you keep that door closed as in your picture, the difference in trim color shouldn't be an issue.

I love your red cabinets. I would paint the walls a bright white and accessorize with black and another color, maybe green. I think you need the white to brighten the space since it has no natural light. Also, it will not fight with the red.

Would a pretty yellow work with the red cabs? How about a wallpaper with reds and golds or silver swirls?
I saw a very pretty paper on houzz that had trees and little red birds sitting on the limbs. I thought it was very pretty. Very natural oriented.

The trim looks like it has not been painted (door and frame). It doesn't look anything like the trim in the kitchen. If those two trims are really the same paint and that laundry picture is what the light does to it (or lack of light) I would honestly repaint the trim in the laundry room to get it to look like the kitchen trim. It looks as though you will have to go several or more shades lighter in the laundry room to get the same color as the kitchen trim. But I would do it, because I don't think it is the other colors making the trim look "nasty yellow white," it is the lack of light. Once your trim is a nice bright white it will be easier to pick a wall color.
