Ticor sink question

I'm looking at the Ticor sinks on Galaxy Tool and have picked out the S405. The only question I have for those of you who have Ticor sinks is what kind of finish it has.

Under finish, it says brushed bowl/polished rim. Under features, it says scratch resistant top mirror finish.

I don't want a shiny, polished finish, so I'm hoping it is more of a brushed or satin look. Would some of you let me know what the finish actually is and if you are happy with the finish and your sink? Thanks so much, Jeanie

It has a satin look. I purchased it recently, but then exchanged it for a rectangular Ticor in the same finish. Much as I loved the look of the S405 D-bowl, my sink cabinet has a tip-out, and that left very little room at the back of the sink. The faucet would have gone to the right, but in the end, the rectangular shape just worked better.

Galaxy was a pleasure to work with, and they ship immediately. I got mine the next day (I live in Chicago).

Satin look that matches the Kohler Vinnata faucet/soap dispenser in brushed nickel if you can check one out anywhere. The sink divider top and the lip that goes under the sink is the shiny ss finish but you dont really see that as it's under the counter and the entire bowl(s) is the satin ss finish.

Galaxy was great, ordered and had the sink 3 or 4 days later. Grids are beautiful too. Great way to save a bit of $ on the budget.

I live in Chicago, too, so I actually just picked mine up! They have all the sinks in their "showroom" (very small, but nice), and they all are the brushed look (I didn't notice that the divided sinks top had a shiny look, but I honestly wasn't looking at the divided ones).

this is our ticor mudroom sink - best shot I have of a close up since I was trying to take a picture of the granite in there! only the brushed finish is what shows.

    Thanks, everyone.
angelina, I don't quite understand the problem with having the tip-out and this particular sink. Would you explain that to me as I have a tip-out in front, also? Which rectangular sink did you chose?
americancolleen, thanks for the information on the Kohler Vinatta as I will be looking for brushed nickel fixtures.
mairing, thank you for the picture. I'm also going to be needing a laundry sink. What size is the sink in the picture?
So glad all of you have had good experiences with Galaxy Tools and like your Ticor sinks.

I had the same concerns. I have a large single bowl Ticor. The finish was not too shiny at all. I have had it for 8 months and am very happy. The rim is shinier I believe and is what they refer to when they say "mirror finish". I have a zero reveal, so the whole rim is under the granite. Galaxy Tool supply consistently satisfies its customers, including me. You can get the sinks even cheaper through their Ebay auctions. Same sink, same company. I didn't do this however.

I have a Ticor S405D (2-bowl), but no tip-out tray. I also have the Kohler Vinnata faucet in Brushed Nickel...they go very well together.

With the S405D, you do see the polished divider, but the bowls are definitely a brushed/satin/matte finish.

With the S405 (single bowl), you won't see the polished rim since there's no divider.

I love my sink and would definitely buy it over again!

There's a picture of my sink in the thread linked below.

In the same thread someone mentioned putting something down over the divider to protect it from scratching. Personally, I don't care if it scratches, but I know it's important to some people and I respect that. I just thought you or someone else reading this thread would be interested in that little tidbit!

Here is a link that might be useful: Thread: Sink grids/mats - like or dislike?

I used the S505 (21x15x9) in both my laundry room and mudroom, the S112 for the kitchen

    I don't have any good close-ups - sorry!

I have the S405D WITH a tip-out tray and have no problems; it fits just fine in my standard 24" deep sink base. However, because it's a double, the faucet is to the side anyway.

I don't quite understand the problem with having the tip-out and this particular sink.

The problem is the front-to-back dimensions of the Ticor S405 is 19" (interior). In a standard-depth cabinet, you only have 24" to work with, plus whatever overhang you have, minus the thickness of your backsplash. So, you have, give or take, 25" of countertop and a 19"+ hole for your sink. That leaves six inches total to fit your faucet in the back and your tip-out in the front. If you check the specs for both the faucet and tip-out, you may find you don't have enough space.

Others here have the double bowl version of this sink. The second, smaller bowl has more room in the back, and this space is a natural place to put your faucet. Without the second bowl, the natural place to put the faucet is in the back.

I have a Ticor S112, which has a front-to-back interior measurement of 16-1/4". I also have a Kohler Vinnata faucet and a tip-out in front. Honestly, I have almost no room to spare, even with a sink almost 3" smaller front-to-back than yours. Plus, I still haven't installed my backsplash. I might have been able to put the sink as much as 1" closer to the front and still fit the tip-out in, but I wouldn't want to compromise on the strength of my countertop in front of the sink by making it much narrower.

@gma...holligator beat me to the explanation of why the sink tip-out paired with the Ticor 405 concerned me. I couldn't have explained it better!

As for which Ticor rectangular sink I chose, it was the S505, whose interior dimensions are 21 x 15-3/4 x 9. It's not installed yet, or I'd post a picture (she says with all the assurance of a Luddite).

One thing to keep in mind with Galaxy: as wonderful as their products and customer service are, be sure to remind them that you want the free sink grid. Then when your shipment arrives without the sink grid, as both mine did, call them. They will apologize and send the grid out separately at their expense. It was really no big deal, and I had kind of expected that to happen based on someone's comment on this forum.

Thanks again, everyone, for the reasoning on the S405 not working with a tip-out. My sink will be in a corner cabinet so I don't think I will have a problem.
Also, thanks for all the pictures....pictures always help a lot.
angelina, thanks for the heads up on the grids, also.
Jim, is there a reason you didn't buy from Galaxy on e-bay? From what I can see, you save shipping.

I had no problem with my order...both grids & strainers arrived with the sink!
