heating in northeast

Hi all,

I know its been discussed to death, but still looking for input on my specific case.

It happens that the pool area is wired to handle a 6kw heat pump, and i have a sunny south facing roof 34*19 for panels.

its 40-45' vertical from pool surface to roof peak.

We are in Massachusetts on the coast, lots of cool breezes all summer, we will not be using a solar cover.

Should I go solar or heat pump? Any northeast solar users out there? I'm ok from 72 degrees on up but wife wants 82 to swim.

I'm concerned cool afternoon breeze will kill solar output, any merit to that?

I suppose I could install solar, and add a smaller heat pump if solar isn't getting the job done solo. Solar payback is pretty quick even on a partial solution. Is that a poor solution?

Thanks!
