Curtains Makeover

Hi. We just painted our house and the curtains dont really match our new color. Any ideas on if and how we can do a cutain make over? Maybe get the curtains dyed? Thanks for any ideas.

Is it the inside of the house or the outside (so are you trying to change the curtains or the lining)? Have you changed the furniture and artwork in that room(s) too? Usually curtains don't match the (interior) wall color, they pick up on some color in the decor. You'd likely get better results (and probably less expensive) buying new curtains rather than trying to dye the existing ones, unless they are cotton or muslin, light color. Pictures would help.

If you just don't like the lining color with the (exterior) color of the house you could replace the lining or try to dye that (after taking it off the curtains, then replace it).

Thanks ajsmama. They are interior curtains and have white lining. We havent changed the furniture, just changed the color of the walls. They were a greenish shade and we now have a light brown/peach shade. The curtains were also a greenish shade - real heavy curtains, as ours was a model house.

Any ideas what would be a good place to shop for new curtains?

    Pictures would still help.

JCP has good sales on curtains, many people find things at Ikea, Country Curtains has many different styles, or you could make your own. Without knowing what your style of decorating/furniture, architecture of house, etc. it's hard to recommend anything. Will you keep the curtain rods? How high are they hung? How high are your ceilings?

Are they in the same tone where they'd work if you added a hem in a different color or a stripe either up and down or on horizonatally (I'm going to add a few extra letters in that word to be sure I have it spelled incorrectly). I personally prefer that the walls and drapes not be the same color unless necessary (small room etc). It shows both off better (IMO)

Pics really would help. But if you're looking for good priced curtains for a quick fix, I recommend IKEA but alter them. I have IKEA linen drapes in our master which I am adding a silk hem to (about a foot tall) with a velvet ribbon between to dress them up (sounds goofy but it's a tuxedo look and it's gorgeous). They also have velvet with you could band with another velvet and link the two with a gorgeous silk ribbon etc.

Look at draperies at drapestyle.com and some of the other higher end companies and you'll get great ideas for perhaps altering what you have (if the colors work). If they don't...LOL I have ummm gad I can't tell you how many rooms to do...send them to me heh heh PLEASE LOL
