curb find !!

My neighbor had this little book case on his curb. He has a 2nd hand store and had set this out of his van. I asked if he was going to toss it and in his usual fashion he said " why ,do you want it " ? YES !! It was filthy so I used the hose and a rag and now it is mine :) It is definitely homemade and rustic. But it works perfectly with my little enamel table that I also got from my neighbor. I just love to shop out of his van.

I am thinking that I will get some gel stain and touch up the finish when I get some time. For now it holds a bunch of my cookbooks and my one and only house plant , an African Violet. My Momma loved them but all of hers died a long time ago. On Easter Sunday we had a flower service at church and we each chose a flower to bring home . I chose this little potted violet. My Momma passed away on April 26th 2005...I think she would be glad I got this little flower.

I had a great big birdhouse bookcase in this room before. I donated it to my church for their auction at Christmas...I was tired of it. I love this one a lot more and it is small but perfect with my table.

Oh and the pitcher/tray/glasses was my Aunt Bessie's. She was one of Momma's sisters. She and I always got along so well and she sent this to me before she passed away. I just love it. All hand painted. c

Great find! I love your table.

Love your Moosewood cookbooks too. I just made the West African Peanut Soup from Sundays at Moosewood. So delish!

Suuuuuuuuu-wweeeeeeeeeet! I love it! I'd have picked that up in a heartbeat! My neighbors only ever throw away, well ... trash.

Nice score. Bookcases hardly ever stay long in thrift stores and in antique stores they can be so expensive even for a simple one. They sell quickly too.

Very cute book case and LOVE the table!!!

Ah...ya'll are too kind ! It is very heavy and someone did a good job of shaping the curved tops and putting the facing on the bottom front. I bet it was a shop project for someone. The screws on the sides are just simple but it is very sturdy. I have looked and looked for something to replace my bird house bookcase and this was just too good to pass up.

Sochi I too love all my Moosewoods ! That and Vegetarian Epicure have served me well...LOL...look at those bindings ! I find the past couple days I have had out all my recipes way more than usual. DH is loving that ! I made him crepes this AM. Posted on the Kitchen side with lots of photos. I will have to post over here too :) c

Um, yes please. Very sweet! It looks like it's been in your kitchen forever.

We should start a thread of favorite curb finds. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow. We have LOTS of curb finds in our house.

Perfect accent to the table. What I love most is the story it all tells and the memories you must have every time you walk into the room. Nice neighbor to have, too.

If I give you my address can you please have your neighbour drive his van by my house? Thanks.

arlo...I think we have had a thread like that in the past...I DON'T want to see your curb finds...I bet they are TOO cool :) I will just be jealous !

anitamo...yep there is that aspect to most of what I have. When folks come to the house and want to have a "tour" I end up spending the whole time telling my "stories ..stories " LOL>..I am sure they wonder what in the world I am doing...can't she just have a darn sofa LOL !

bl...I think you are a little out of the range for Roland. He is 75 and looks 65. He is a real go getter. I never go in his shop which is just up the street. Way too much temptation. so when he has something on the curb or in his pickup or van that is just sort of hanging there then I shop...otherwise nope. I don't need no more stuff !!

I got my old metal glider and the 2 purple iron rocking chairs and the table and the white metal old utility cabinet and now the bookcase from him...oh and some old blue Ball canning jars..and the 3 gorgeous floor lamps that were $7 a piece for 2 of them and free for #3. Hmm,I think that is all :) c
