I love Trumpet vines.......the flowers attract hummingbirds, and are tropical looking in color and size. How much concrete decking is in that twelve foot space between the rockery and the pool? I think you will be fine because of the four foot height of the retaining wall. Those suckers would have to travel downward to a depth of four feet and then over twelve feet to the pool. If it was simply level with the pool and twelve feet from it, I would be more concerned. Hopefully someone with more experience with me with Trumpet Vines will have an answer.

We had several existing trumpet vines in our yard - the only problem with the pool is it does drop some leaves and flowers - which blow into the pool - but our cleaner handles most of it (and it's not worse than a tree in the fall). No problems with it being invasive. We're happy we kept it - it attracts lots of birds and bees and is pretty.

Thanks for the comments kahbear and Jennifer. I'm hoping it will work out. From some of the comments I've seen on the web, one would think this vine is invading the world!

We only have a 4 foot concrete deck around the pool, then a one foot space, then the 4 foot stone retaining wall. The trumpet vine will be about 6-7 feet beyond that.

I trim my vines a lot - they do send out tendrils to grab onto anything it can reach - and mine are along a fence near the pool and on the deck - I want them pretty contained so I trim them every couple weeks during peak growing season - but it only takes me 15 minutes or so - so it's not a big deal. I can see them taking over the world left completely unattended - but it's not hard to keep them in check!

Kind of the same question but different. My fence is 6.67 feet from the concrete around the inground pool. The concrete is 3ft to the wall of the pool. If I plant trumpet vines on the fence will the roots eventually reach the pool wall and cause damage?

Your issues will be maintenance and litter. It grows very vigorously and will need to be maintained to keep it where and how you want it. How often depends on what you want.
Nothing produces no litter. In my own landscaping around the pool, it’s my lantana flowers but I get pine needles from a neighbors backyard tree two houses away and my back fence neighbors crepe myrtles and leaves here and there. It’s nothing our filters, sweeper can’t handle.

I have a Big nonia
and a Jasmine vine on my pool fence but my question is about a wild one fast engulfing a garage wall very tall will it damage Hardie siding and brick?

Is it an issue with bees and swimmers or kids getting stung?

For those who planted the Trumpet vine by th epool back deck with Trellis did it create havoc? I bought some of these panted them in my yard around 12 feet from my house, but they are by the trellis of my deck. They are planted roughly 9 feet from my above ground pool as well. I too am now nervous after reading all the crazy comments abou how invasive they are.
