marthavila~question!

Hi!

I know we've noted before that our tastes and aesthetic seem similar. So, I chuckled when I did a search for the Modern Aire PS 26 range hood and your handle popped up!

Did you go with it? Do you like it? When are you unveiling? I'm anxious to see your kitchen!

I really like the stainless PS 26 with the bands. I plan on using the 42 inch over our 36 inch SS Thermador range with white subway tile & a pot filler. Thoughts?

Thanks v. much!

Katie

    Hi Katie!

From what I've seen of your posts, there's no doubt we have tastes in common and I'm really looking forward to seeing your finished kitchen! IMHO, the PS 26 is a perfect range hood for those of us who lean more towards a vintage style kitchen. I also think the stainless hood over the stainless Thermador, with subways and potfiller in between, is really going to make quite the statement!

And, yes, I love my hood! As one who lives in NYC where hoods are more the exception than the norm, and where I'd been living in my former kitchen for 20 years+ before this reno, I've never had previous experience of working with a hood. (Talk about coming into the new millenimum with this kitchen reno. LOL!) Like so many other elements of my design, I really agonized over this decision and was pretty much set to go with a wooden hood. At the last minute, though, I decided to try Modern-Aire -- primarily at the suggestion of Clingresa over on the AF -- and it was history after that. Not only did I think the PS 26 to be an excellent match for my Aga 6-4, but, as you will see in the photo below, MA was able to do a precise color match with my Aga's claret red color. BTW, I'm using a 45" hood over my 39" range; CFMS are 1200 and it's directly vented through the roof. My GC created that "soffit" above the hood in order to hide the ductwork. In the process, I think he also created a bit of architectural interest. :)

marthavila, I've seen your kitchen before, but had not been focused on your range hood - eyes kept tracking to the range itself! - It's all so good. Really like what your GC did to cover the duct work.

Me too! I can't get enough of that gorgeous space ... you have such beautiful taste. I love the coved detail! I really, really love it!

    MV~

    Thanks for the response.

I love, love that range & hood. Looks amazing! What a perfect color match they did-I think their customer service is great, despite what I read over on the AF. I'm working with Patrick & he's been super helpful (since, like you, this is our first experience with ventilation-other than opening windows and shooing smoke out)

Is your hood 18 or 30 inch height?

And, are you loving your cupboard latches? Looking great...

    Thanks,
    Katie

Katie, the hood is 30" in height and installed approximately 30" above the range top. Patrick is great! Very easy to work with -- as are all the employees of MA, in my experience.

On the latches: While I love the way they look, I'm still having to train myself on how to be wise in their use! That is, whenever I have both cab doors open, I have to remember to close the door that has the latch "catcher" first. Otherwise, if I do it in the reverse, I end up banging the door on the latch itself. Does that make sense? I'm classifying it as a minor trade-off of function for form. Hope it doesn't drive me crazy in the long run!

Oh, and to answer your earlier question: my hope is that I will be able to do the official "unveiling" of this kitchen sometime in May/June. (Murphy and God willing, that is.) LOL!
