Double check my hood insert selection? Please.

This is the first time I've had to select an insert. I'm looking at a custom stone hood to accommadate a 36" electric cooktop. I rarely fry foods, btw, but I do saute a lot.

I'm in contact with Coral Stone on the custom stone hood and he suggested I take a look at a 29" Faber but it sounds too small for my hood??? http://www.ventingdirect.com/faber-630002752-29-inca-hc-ss-standard-insert-rangehood-with-500-cfm-internal-blower-3-speed-slide-control-2-halogen-lights/p416299

I was looking at this one,http://www.ventingdirect.com/faber-630003953-38-inca-pro-professional-insert-rangehood-with-900-or-1200-remote-blower-variable-slide-control-3-halogen-lights/p416300, thinking it was more the size I needed.

Sorry for the long URLs, but they wouldn't both fit below.

I mentioned that my hubby is 6 foot 6 inches, so I'm guessing the hood will be about 30 inches above the cooktop. Also, my cooktop is in bumped out 5 inches more than the rest of the cabs. Not sure that matters much, but thought I'd better mention it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Go with the larger hood. When I was researching for my hood, I found that it was recommended to go with a hood larger than your range or cooktop. I have a 36" cooktop and a 42" built-in hood. I think it looks great and I am glad I didn't go with a smaller one.

Also, the height placement of your hood will be dicated by a number of factors including: local building code, cooktop specs, and the hood specs. Mine had a very specific range in which it could be placed. The bump-out should be fine - just be sure to bump your hood foward too so you can capture the steam/oils etc.

A larger hood would be better than one that is of the same width as the range/ cooktop.

I would suggest not going with the mesh filters as they tend to clog very quickly.

A 30" height would work fine. The typical height is anywhere from 26" to 36".

My hood has a 36" width and the actual spacing between the cabinets is 40" (minus the side cabinet skin). When all put together, the gap between the cabinet on each side was about 1.25".
