Ta-dah!

Quick Shrimp Curry

Cook 1/2 cup chopped onion in 1 TB butter or margarine till tender but not brown. Add 1 can frozen condensed cream of shrimp soup; heat and stir till smooth.

Stir in 1 cup dairy sour cream and 1/2 t. curry powder. Add 1 cup cleaned cooked or canned shrimp; heat. Dash with paprika. Serve over hot rice.

Offer curry condiments: salted peanuts, chopped hard-cooked eggs, chutney, and kumquat preserves. Makes 4 servings.

So does this mean that the frozen shrimp soup is still being sold????? I've never seen it since the 50s or 60s I don't think

That's really amazing thinking about how long it would have taken you to find that recipe if you were trying to locate it before the internet. LOL

My copy of the BH&G cookbook is the 1962 version. I had to buy it when I started college in fall of '65 and took my first course in Home Ec, which was my major. It's still good for lots of recipes and how-to, just as is my Joy of Cooking and my mom's 1947 copy of the Boston Cooking School. Some things are classics: these cookbooks, my grandmother's cast iron skillet, and her pottery bean pot, to name just a few.

I haven't seen the frozen C of S soup for years either. I first came across the canned type about five years ago in a cut rate food store that I think got them from freight damaged shipments. (These were not dented or damaged in any way but perhaps part of the case was.) I bought all they had. Then about a year ago I found them in a very large supermarket in a larger town. Now they're available in medium sized town supermarkets but not yet in my small 3,000 Pop. town. I've got my stash and replenish it whenever I get low and hit a larger town. LOL

Of course, without the recipe, I came up with some "interesting" variations. Thanks again for the real thing Teresa.

Fleur, don't you love finding cases of stuff you love at places like that? I think my peak experience was getting a case of Muir Glen roasted tomatoes for $1. each. It hasn't happened since! and so now I buy them one at a time. ;-) Maureen

While I wasn't able to buy a case, I found the Muir Glen roasted tomatoes for .49 a can at Big Lots. I keeping looking to see if they have more, but not lately.
