They make paintable chase now for cords. You might try building your own platform fixture with battery candles. Search the box above under Products for battery lights, battery candles. Google for them as well. I remember that Home Interiors use to carry them in three sizes. These are LED.

I think I figured it out. :)

I'm going to run wire track lighting from IKEA across the ceiling from wall to wall. Then using just one of the halogen sockets, I'll get an adapter to standard light bulb and screw in a Philips Hue wifi lightbulb. This will take care of the power and the lighting itself. I can then use any fixture, chandelier or lamp shade falling below the lightbulb.

I'll end up with an attractive wiring setup without damaging the ceiling and ill control the lights from an iPad or iPhone changing colors according to the mood. I use this table for both work and
dining so overhead lighting and ability to change the intensity and color of light is important.

I'll be sure to post a photo here when it's done. :)
