RECIPE: Blue Cheese Onions Gratin

I thought I'd post this because we thought this was delicious with a steak dinner last week. Thanks to Debbie814 for sending me this cookbook that she found in a secondhand shop!

BLUE CHEESE ONIONS GRATIN

2 large Spanish onions (about 1 pound)

6 ounces blue cheese, broken into pieces

6 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature

2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce

1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed

freshly ground black pepper

Preheat oven to 425 and position oven rack to the center of oven. Generously butter a 9 x 13 baking dish.

Slice onions and place evenly in prepared baking dish. Mix remaining ingredients together and spread evenly over onions with a spatula.

Bake at 425 for 20 minutes, then broil briefly until top is browned and bubbly. (Watch carefully to avoid burning.)

Woodie's Notes - I only had 5 ounces of blue cheese and you couldn't really spread it with a spatula, I just mashed it all up with a form and sprinkled it over the onions with my fingers. Also, I didn't broil, I just baked it for about 1/2 hour and the top was nicely browned.
