LOOKING for: Kid friendly dried fruit recipes

I bought several bags of dried tropical fruit but now my kids are tired of trail mix. Any thoughts to put this to good use?

Thank you in advance for any ideas!

Stacey =)

    Dave's Fruit Delites

    1 bag dried apples
    2 bags mixed dried fruit
    1 cup peanut butter
    3/4 cup honey
    1 1/2 cups chocolate chips

Dice all the dried fruits. Mix all ingredients. Shape into walnut sized balls. Roll in confectioners sugar. Wrap each in wax paper or plastic wrap and aluminum foil. Store in freezer until needed.

    Fruit Sticks

Grind the dried fruit, along with any nuts or seeds wanted. Push through a mold.* Roll the sticks in crushed nuts, toasted sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, or powdered sugar as desired. Wrap in plastic wrap & foil. Freeze until needed.

*To make a mold, get a piece of 1/2" or 3/4" PVC pipe about 6" long and a wooden dowel that will fit inside the pipe. Spoon the mixture into the pipe, packing it tightly. Then use the dowel to extrude the fruit stick.

You could cut them up and put them in oatmeal cookies.

I like to chop up dried fruits and stir them in to a box of gingerbread mix, along with chopped walnuts and the grated rind of one orange. Then I use the juice from the orange as part of the water to add to the dry mixture, following the package directions. After baking and cooling, I frost with a lemon buttercream icing and cut into bars.

I chop them up and knead into home made whole wheat bread. I also add nuts to that bread.
    Makes awesome toast.
    Do you need a recipe?

Or this recipe, posted on the Cooking Forum a week ago. She says any kind of dried fruits can be substituted for raisins.
    Kitty's Jam Fruit Cake
    6 eggs
    2 c sugar
    1 c butter
    4 c flour
    6 T buttermilk
    2 c flavored jam
    2 t cinnamon
    2 t nutmeg
    2 t cloves
    1 t allspice
    2 t baking soda
1 box raisins* (1 lb size)
1/2 pkg dates* (about 1 cup)
    2 c walnuts
    Cream butter and sugar.
Add eggs one at a time, beating well.
    Add jam.
Add buttermilk to baking soda, mix well and add to batter.
    Mix flour with spices.
Sprinkle the fruit and nuts in some of the flour mixture. Mix in flour and spices. Mix in floured fruit and nuts.
Pour in a large angel cake pan lined with wax paper. Bake at 275F for 2 1/2-3 hours.

I pour into well greased mini bread pans and bake at 300F until poke test comes out clean.

*Use your favorite dried fruits and nuts. 3-4 c of fruits and 2 cups of chopped nuts.

This is a old recipe of my Grandmothers

    1 teaspoon soda
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1 teaspoon nutmeg
    1 cup seedless raisins
    1 cup mixed dried fruit
    1/2 cup chopped nuts

    1.Heat oven to 400 degrees.
    2. Mix shortening, sugar, egg, and orange rind. Stir in juice. Sift dry ingredients together and stir in. Mix in fruit and nuts with hands.
    3. Divide dough in half. Roll each on lightly floured board into a rectangle (12x7). Cut 6 - 7x2 strips. Bake 10 to 12 minutes on lightly greased cookie sheet. While warm spread with a powdered sugar icing and decorate with candied fruit. Cut into bars.

Use them in place of nuts or raisins when making butter tarts or pecan tassies. Every christmas I make trail mix tartlets and they are very popular.
