LOOKING for: Peppermint bark

I want to make peppermint bark using a layer of chocolate and a layer of white on top of it, but am afraid that the layers will not adhere to each other. Please give me any advice if you have tried this. Thank you.

make sure your bottom layer is dried and then once you pour the second layer, it will be fine.

I have a recipe somewhere and darned if I can find it! Seems to me it was important to have the bottom layer be at room temp, not ice cold.

Have no fear, here is your recipe, Sharon! I have made this 2 years in a row for Christmas and since I was ignorant about making it and wasn't at all afraid that the chocolate might not adhere to each other, I just followed Sharon's directions and came out with a perfect peppermint bark both times! This is a good recipe.

    Sharon's Peppermint Bark

    1 lb bittersweet chocolate
    8 drops peppermint oil
    1 lb chopped white chocolate
    3/4 cup chopped candy canes

Line a 11 X 17 inch baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside

Melt bittersweet chocolate in a heavy pan over low heat, stirring constantly. Stir in 4 drops of peppermint oil. Spread evenly over pan and chill for about 1 hour.

Melt white chocolate in a heavy pot over low heat, stirring constantly. Stir in remaining 4 drops of peppermint oil and then add in candy cane.

Spread white chocolate over chilled dark chocolate, spreading to the egde of the pan. Chill 4 hours.

Refrigerate just until just before serving then break into pieces. Will keep in the fridge for 3 weeks ( yeah right!!! LOL)

Thanks Woodie, guess I was wrong about the room temp! Haven't made this is two or three years but it was sooooo good, think I may do it again this year.

Important note it must be peppermint oil NOT peppermeint extract!

Well, I just made my first batch and it's looks like it's gonna be great.

Let me tell you how hard it is to find peppermint oil though.
I went to four different gourmet stores and all I could find was extract.
I finally found it at Wild Oats. They had two kinds, but only one of them was food grade.

I had a difficult time finding it too. Usually carried only in specialty shops. However it MUST be peppermint oil, extract causes the chocolate to seize.....garbage!

FYI~ I have purchased the little bottles of all the different oils at Wal-Mart and Hobby Lobby in the last couple of weeks. I have made the hard candy (glass candy?) in a bunch of flavors....cherry, raspberry, grape, peppermint, cinnamon, lemon, root beer, butterscotch, watermelon, spearmint & butter rum. They've all been wonderful (except the butter rum, YUCK! won't make that one again!). They are really easy to make using the oils, I will have to try the Peppermint Bark too, sounds really good. They are under $2 for 2 little bottles, enough for one batch. Hope this helps. Happy Holidays!

    Well, it tastes fantastic.
However, I was wondering if instead of semi-sweet chocolate, would milk chocolate possibaly taste better?

(BTW, I never thought of trying Hobby Lobby. That's right down the street, and I ended up all the way across town to find it. [slaps forehead])
