In the 70's I worked at K-Mart in the food deptment. We would make a white sauce that was thined vanilla pudding to top the apple dumplins. I can't remember how we made it. This is what happens when you get old! Can anyone help? Grannie
I make a Creme Anglaise.....which a soft custard....no vanilla pudding. 2 cups half and half 1/2 cup sugar 4 egg yolks pinch of salt 1 1/2 tsps pure vanilla extract. Heat the cream until bubbles form....beat the eggs and sugar until light, stir in a little of the hot cream....add a little more cream and then whisk the eggs into the hot cream in the pan....heat, stiffing constantly until thickened Do NOT over cook or it will curdle...add vanilla and serve.
