This is from Marion Brown's Southern Cookbook as submitted by Mrs. Cramer Barksdale. No garlic but that's fixable:
SOUTHERN ONION DRESSING (about 3 cups)
3 TBL melted butter or part butter, part bacon drippings
1 large onion, peeled, minced
1 cup minced celery
2 cups crumbled, dry corn bread
5 slices light bread, toasted, grated
1 pinch thume
1 pinch powdered poultry seasoning
2 hard-boiled eggs, chopped (optional)
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup chicken or other stock

Melt butter in heavy pan; add minced onion & celery; saute until tender. Add all dry ingredients & Worcestershire & stir until thoroughly blended. Add stock. Mix lightly & stuff bird.
If a more highly seasoned dressing is desired, add sage. If dressing is to be made into cakes, add 1 beaten egg to mixture. Form into little patties & bake like bread until golden brown.~~
