If there is anyway you can adjust the TV height up maybe at least 8" off console onto the wall? This will fill in some. There are wooden or iron toppers you can find and place above TV. On each side you can always add sconce or two objects that are compatable. Accessories are hard. Just be patient and right things will show up. Unless you move the TV up you might have a balance issues. Wall mounts can be found just about anywhere. I know Walmart has them. I hope this helps.

Hi! I had the same black hole dilemma on a big blank wall and anything you put above it will just look like a black hole with decorations above it! I suggest a wall unit in the black or dark wood of your other furniture in which the TV will be recessed, either with doors or not. This keeps the tv from looking like it is going to suck you into the wall! We went for a craftsman style, but you might look for a Caribbean unit. usually they are big enough to fill up that entire wall and you can display objet d'art and books around the TV. I thought this one from Crate and Barrel might fit the other woods in the room and is simple:

How about large pots with ficus trees on either side. It looks like you get a lot of light in your place so the trees will grow and add interest and fill the space above and besides the TV.

In this type of instance, a tall piece is the best solution. I have used this for a flat screen TV. It is lighted and has a nice decorative element that allows it to be a focal point without overwhelming the space with height and depth. I would try something three dimensional because I don't think a painting would look right b/c it would just be more rectangle upon rectangle. Try some type of metal wall sculpture. I inputed wall sculpture on Houzz and several items came up. One gentleman had great ones but they were about 5000 Euros. You might want to browse yourself.

Another thing could be a clock or starburst mirror. I think 3 dimensional items would give some visual interest if they are small enough.

Etsy.com has a search engine and you might find a wall hanging of some type there. One shop has black initials in script floating on glass with a black frame. There are also vinyl sticker type murals or nice quotes that some people are using (they peel off) But it of course is personal taste. Ebay also has some metal wall sculptures if you input that into their browser.

I had the same problem - did a black steel picture rail with an assortment of black and white photos. It works well to take attention away from the TV.

I applaud you for putting the television on a console at eye level when you are sitting down. Function first, then fashion.

I applaud you for not filling the wall with dark bookcase boxes around the television that absorb even more light from the room.

This photo is in the "Caribbean" section of Houzz photos. It has a tryptich effect, but does not distract from the television when it is turned on.

Try 3 framed photo's, art work etc. to expand the area above the tv. Pull the tv forward if possible ( not the piece its on) on left side next to console something with height ; chair with a pillow, a plant on a stand.

The exact items on either side of the tv ( in your picture) anchor it more then is pleasing to the eye. Maybe 3 objects on right side might look better. Just experiment with things you have around the house for the look you want before investing money.

While I see what eztia is saying, I think with the 12 foot ceilings and the large size of the room, the dark wood cabinet would serve to make it more "cozy" and would not darken the room. Guess I just really hate big TV's and anyway I can hide or disguise them is my choice - but you know - the hubby loves it so much!

Yes, I agree that a tall cabinet would work better with the ceiling height. Don't add too much stuff around a tv which can look messy. Raise the tv off the base.

Another option would be to do a wallcovering that has a little soft geometry to it and that picks up your wall paint color and that has some of your background color from your floor?

i love both of karen paul's ideas! Maybe add a large clock above tv if you decided on a wallpaper for that area, or painting the wall a darker shade and adding 2 tall plants on either side!

I agree with rivers300, think your room could use some greenery. Either taller plants on either side or 3 wall mounted containers above the tv placed horizontally and evenly spaced with hanging green plants (ivy, or ...)

You could also add bookshelves on either side which would give it a more balanced feel of a built-in and you can dress up the shelves in anyway you'd like and easily change out what you put in there. You could even paint the back of the bookshelves and add lighting so it "pops" more than just having dark bookshelves with objects in them.
